Community Highlights: Meet Victoriana Gonzalez of Life With Mini Milo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoriana Gonzalez

Hi Victoriana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
There’s nothing I love more than people and pets. When I had the opportunity to combine these passions, put my professional skills to the test, foster an incredible community, and help others along the way, I was absolutely over the moon.

I studied Business and Entrepreneurship at San Diego State University, and after graduating, I dove straight into my career, wearing multiple hats at local startups. These early experiences gave me a holistic view of business and sparked my passion for digital marketing—a perfect blend of creativity and data-driven strategy. One of the key skills I developed was social media management, which became a core focus as I advanced in my career.

A turning point in both my personal and professional life came when my boyfriend and I decided to add a dog to our family. Growing up with dogs, I’d always dreamed of having one of my own. Once my work travel demands eased, we decided it was the perfect time. Though I’d always considered myself a “big dog person,” spending time with a friend’s miniature dachshund changed everything. Their “big dog” personality in a small package completely won me over.

In April 2023, we brought Milo, our long-haired dachshund, home, and our lives changed forever. Friends and family were constantly asking for updates and photos, so I created a fun Instagram and TikTok account, @lifewithminimilo, to share Milo’s adventures. What started as a way to keep up with the texts and group chats soon introduced us to the amazing dog community online, connecting us with incredible people in San Diego and beyond.

What I didn’t anticipate was how quickly Milo’s fun personality and charm would take off. One day, I shared a cute video of Milo on Instagram and TikTok, thinking it was just another fun post. Within hours, my phone was flooded with notifications. By the end of the week, the video had gone viral, amassing over 50 million views across both platforms. Our follower count skyrocketed from a modest 100 followers to tens of thousands almost overnight.

This moment was transformative—not just for the numbers but for the impact. Messages poured in from people saying Milo’s videos brightened their day, brought joy during tough times, and gave them a reason to smile. It was incredibly humbling to see how something so simple could create such a meaningful connection.

As a marketing professional, I saw this as an opportunity to blend my expertise with my passion. I analyzed the data, studied trends, and refined my content strategy. This led to consistent growth, deeper engagement, and a new career path as a content creator and “pupfluencer.”

Over time, brands began to notice. We’ve had the privilege of partnering with some of the biggest names in the pet industry, as well as local small businesses, creating content, running ads, and attending events to support their goals. What started as a fun side project to share Milo’s cuteness has grown into a full-fledged passion—one that lets me combine my love for dogs with my skills in digital marketing while fostering a community that brings joy to so many.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has been nothing short of life-changing—but it hasn’t come without its challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was transitioning from the excitement of going viral to managing the expectations that followed. When Milo’s videos suddenly reached millions, it was incredible, but it also came with the pressure to deliver consistent, engaging content to a rapidly growing audience. Finding a rhythm for posting, while balancing creativity and authenticity, took time to navigate.

The whirlwind of opportunities that arose after going viral was equally exciting and overwhelming. In the influencer space—even in the pet community—there’s a constant pull to take every deal or partner with any brand offering a check. At the start, it was tempting to say yes to everything, but we quickly realized how important it was to stay true to our values. For us, this has never been about fame or money. It’s always been about sharing Milo’s joy, building a positive community, and creating genuine connections.

The pet world is already overwhelming for owners—choosing the right food, supplements, accessories, or training tools can feel like an endless maze of conflicting advice and empty promises. That’s why we made it our mission to only promote products we truly believe in, ones we use daily and genuinely trust. It’s not just about showcasing what works for us but about respecting the diverse needs of other pet owners. Turning down lucrative partnerships that didn’t align with these values hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been incredibly rewarding to build trust with our audience and know we’re making thoughtful, meaningful recommendations.

Another challenge has been staying grounded amid the rapid growth. The reality of content creation is that it can be emotionally and creatively demanding. There’s always the lingering question: will people continue to enjoy what we share? And can we keep up with the momentum? But every time a follower reaches out to say Milo’s antics brightened their day or helped them through a tough moment, it reaffirms why we do this. Those heartfelt messages are a constant reminder of the power of positivity and connection.

This journey has taught us so much—not just about navigating social media, but about the importance of being intentional with our platform, and finding balance in the chaos. What started as a simple Instagram account to share Milo’s charm has become something much bigger: a chance to bring joy, spread positivity, and foster a community we’re incredibly proud of. The road hasn’t always been smooth, but every twist and turn has been worth it.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When I was in college, I had this idealized vision of what a mentor should be—someone larger than life who would swoop in, transform my career, and leave an indelible mark. I thought there would only ever be one or two such people in my lifetime. But as I’ve navigated both my academic and professional journeys, I’ve come to understand that mentorship often looks very different from what I imagined. It can come from unexpected places, in unexpected ways, and sometimes from people you’ve never even met in person.

Mentorship isn’t always a singular, monumental relationship—it’s a collection of moments, lessons, and connections that shape your path. Sometimes it’s a manager who shares a piece of wisdom that changes how you approach a challenge, or someone whose insights you absorb through a book, podcast, or online platform. Looking back, I’ve realized that every meaningful connection has the potential to offer mentorship, even in small ways.

The key is to never underestimate the power of constantly learning, planting seeds and fostering relationships. Be curious. Ask questions. Embrace the possibility of new ideas, experiences, and people. Step out of your comfort zone by attending local events, engaging in online communities, and simply starting conversations – even if it’s while you wait in line at your local coffee shop. Networking isn’t about perfectly crafted questions or calculated strategies—it’s about showing up as your authentic self, being approachable, and building genuine connections.

Even if you don’t have an immediate goal or question, master the art of making friends. You never know who might influence your path in the future, or how a seemingly casual connection could evolve into something meaningful. Throughout my career, every mentor I’ve had was introduced to me through someone I took the time to connect with. These relationships weren’t about asking for help—they were about building trust and mutual respect, which naturally led to opportunities for guidance and growth.

Most importantly, remember that mentorship is everywhere if you’re willing to look for it. Every person you meet, every story you hear, and every experience you have can teach you something. Stay curious, stay open, and trust that the right people will come into your life when you approach the world with authenticity and a willingness to connect.
