Today we’d like to introduce you to Viviane Hagopian
Hi Viviane, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I began college, I knew I wanted to pursue a field that would be challenging. Accounting was a field that people often stayed away from and I was intrigued by the opportunity. I was always good with numbers so I pursued my bachelor’s in accounting practices and theory. I worked my way through college and one of the first jobs I had was at Jons supermarket when I was a cashier and prepared their books. Once I finished college, I began working full time for larger corporations such as Sebastian International and McDonalds as their controller and regional accountant. When I met my husband, Robert, we decided to move to San Diego and wanted to start a family. This was a challenging shift, but I was always up for a challenge and that’s when I decided I wanted to start my own accounting practice. V&R Associates was born along with my first child, Lara. The rest is history.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting your own business, along side moving to a new city, and beginning a family is not an easy feat; as you can imagine. When I first began the company, I felt a great weight on my shoulders juggling client acquisition, retention, and work flow along with my personal life; all by myself. I quickly realized that I was busy every second of every day. Even while sleeping I constantly thought of what needed to be done next. However, I saw this all as another challenge that I could overcome.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
V&R Associates is a family owned and operated accounting firm, located in San Diego. We specialize in bookkeeping, taxes and accounting services. Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Get out there and don’t be afraid! It’s ok to admit what you need help on and seek solutions. Don’t be afraid to socialize, go to networking events, pitch yourself, build relationships, and ask for help. What matters most is the attitude you live with daily to continue working hard and never give up.
