Today we’d like to introduce you to William Sixsmith
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After starting my career in the front office of the Chicago Fire (MLS) I used my contacts to land a position with the San Diego Padres. I’ve always had the entrepreneurial spirit and that California energy got me to start looking at franchise options to start my first business. i9 Sports was a great fit based on all of the sports event and operations work I had done with the professional teams. 12 years later I own 4 different i9 Sports franchises, do a lot of operational work for SDUSD, and contract with several private schools to oversee their PE programs. Its definitely a very satisfying field of work when everything is humming.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The beginning is a struggle, but that part is supposed to be. Like millions of small business COVID really hit us hard. Being in the business of gathering large groups of people into one area obviously was basically impossible. We didn’t operate and had negative revenue generation for almost 1.5 years. Fortunately once the restrictions were lifted people were hungry for team sports and business really picked up quickly.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about i9 Sports?
We are a youth sports recreational program focused on skill building and teamwork over hard core competition. We specialize in multi-child families as our once a week practice play model is very convenient for parents. A family of 3 children can show up to one place, play 3 different sports in 3 different age divisions in 3-4 hours total and have the rest of their day to spend as a family.
What were you like growing up?
I am the oldest brother of three. I have been making up games, the rules, being bossy my whole life. Crazy how closely my career has mirrored those early days.
