Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Chavez.
Adriana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My first yoga class was on the wii fit. After that, I took a class at Mesa and was hooked! I wasn’t flexible or strong, but that didn’t matter. It was about the way it made me feel- free and energetic. It was hard to find affordable yoga but I managed. I practiced for years before I became a teacher. I was working at the Chuze fitness in Santee for 3 years for an almost minimum wage when I realized that there were no yoga studios in Santee and barely any in east county San Diego altogether! It was shocking but my mission was clear. To bring affordable and accessible yoga to everyone in Santee. I opened my studio in 2015 and collaborated with a non-profit called, The California Health Network. We are just a friendly, laid-back neighborhood studio.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been many physical, emotional and mental challenges. But that is what I love to be about yoga, you are rising to challenge yourself and grow. I have had to work through injuries as well as mental and physical blocks. But when you fall in love with the process, the destination becomes less important. So, fall in love with the journey, because the day we stop evolving is the day we die.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Every Body Yoga Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
I opened Every Body Yoga Studio in Santee. We offer many styles of yoga for all ages and body types, every day of the week. Getting healthy is challenging enough without breaking your pocketbook. So, we offer classes at a much lower price than competitors. We are a neighborhood studio of friends and family so if someone needs help, reach out to me and we will work it out! 🙂
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
For centuries, Yoga was for men. In the modern American business of yoga, it is a woman’s world which means you will do well as a woman. However, I do believe men are just as successful in this business.
