Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Ellis.
Amber, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Fashion for me started in my childhood days with the observance of watching my mother get dressed up! Her closet always had the latest trends and shoes! On school days, my mom would pick out my clothes for the day but I always had another look in mind for myself. I woke always pack the outfit I wanted to wear and when I got to school I would go into the girl’s restroom and change my clothes’! I felt better wearing the outfit I had in mind. From that day forward, I knew fashion and style was my thing! From middle school through high school, I had a thing for trying to keep up with the latest trends! When it came to birthdays and Christmas all I ever wanted was clothes, shoes, and jewelry‘! Once graduating high school and going off to college I was able to buy my own wardrobe, shoes and whatever else I wanted! My closet started looking exactly how I pictured it! Getting my 1st job was the icing on the cake. I was able to shop and keep up with the latest fashions! I would get dressed and snap photos to post on my Facebook and Instagram! Never in that moment did I think to start up my Fashion|Outfit blog until earlier this year when I realized that I had quite a few people who would ask me where I purchased certain items or for fashion and style tips! My blog is simply for inspiring anyone fashion wise ‘ to get dressed up whether it’s for a casual day or a night out on the town.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a smooth road so far with my blog! Only thing I would say is that it’s challenging sometimes to keep the content coming ! You have quite a few people who look forward to you posting on Instagram. Sometimes, I feel the pressure to post every day but I remind myself that taking your time and not rushing will be a better outcome! It’s not always easy putting looks together, it’s a job within itself. My advice for young women looking to start up a blog whether it’s fashion, hair, nails, etc. I would say don’t feel the pressure to rush your work, take your time & that slow progress is better than no progress at all! Also, consistency is key!
What should we know about your business? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I work a normal 9to5 job! I’m an overnight caregiver. Total opposite of my passion but the goal is to get exposure from my fashion blog and take off from there! I would say I’m known for my fashion and style! I always get the “You be dressing” quote’. What sets me apart from others is that I’m very open to trying new things and I love different when it comes to fashion! I’ll wear what others might be afraid to wear! I’m not afraid to show off certain body parts if the clothing exposes it! Fashion is bold and it’s a challenge! But I like a challenge.
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Far as a mentor, I don’t have one as of yet! But I have a great support system of women who support what I do and a younger sister who is also into the blogging type of lifestyle! Far as networking, in general, I try to post at least 2 to 3 times a week with a different OOTD and you also want to tag those brands or companies in your photo because they just might want to post you on their Instagram, so that you can inspire followers with an idea of how to wear a certain item.
