Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Paola Mendoza.
Ana Paola, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in the city of Santa Cruz, Bolivia but I live in Valencia, Spain for 19 years. Since I was very young, I always liked the world of beauty, especially fashion. While I was studying at the institute, I helped my friends with everything related to clothing, makeup, style… and people liked what I did, but it was still something I did with people I trusted, although I felt that it was what I was doing. I was more passionate. When I graduated I definitely knew that I wanted to dedicate myself to it, so I prepared and worked hard to be certified in makeup, hairdressing and beautician. I had some work in beauty centers and freelance that allowed me to take a lot of experience. Until finally, I could take the step to work as a teacher in an important academy in the center of the city of Valencia. Throughout that process, I always trained in every course I could and practiced any new trend or technique that appeared and increased my skills in special effects makeup. Another very important factor has been improving my presence in social networks.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not everything was easy and everything is easy now. I always had to work while I was studying, whether it was in work done or in other types of positions. The world of makeup is a very competitive world, great talent and people with many years of experience always appear. You have to be updated daily and above all practicing. On many occasions, I worked free for good photographers or designers, due to my passion for makeup and the desire to learn. Sometimes, a handicap for me was my age, as they considered I was too young for what things, I remember in a beauty center where I was hired to teach a course, that I was pressured to say that I was older than I was had; they thought that the people who attended that training would trust that my work was better only because of my age, regardless of the many years of experience I had or the quality of my work. To the girls who are starting now in this sector or whatever, I advise you to always a risk and show your personality, because what makes the difference and makes you be the best in your profession, is how you are as a person. One of my maxims is that experience and talent add up to be the best, but attitude multiplies. So, I invite the people who undertake, that never stop being themselves and that they show themselves to the world as they are inside.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Ana Paola Mendoza Makeup or @anapaolamend story. Tell us more about the business.
Well, looking back and assessing all the moments I’ve lived, I can say that what I like to be recognized is in the social makeup. I think that a makeup has to be something beautiful but that you can enjoy at any time. Many times it is believed that because makeup seems more elaborate, it is better. And really a make-up for a person means to listen previously to what he/she feels and to know how it is to be able to interpret what he/she is looking for and translate it into what he really needs. I love it so much when a person wears a well-made make-up in which you can appreciate hours of work as when someone wears a five-minute makeup equally well done and according to the context. The important thing many times of a makeup is where, when and how you will look.
When I say that my specialty is social makeup, it also means makeup for brides. This makeup is very important because it will be remembered for good or bad for almost the rest of your life and your life. You have to see that everything is perfect and that it adapts to the needs of the environment. Many factors come into play and we must make them all come together in perfect harmony. I always try to innovate and promote that human part of makeup. I’m never afraid to express what I feel with makeup. There are times when you can be freer and sometimes less than, as the type of work requires. But what is always important is the person who will wear it, she should feel comfortable, comfortable and represented. Well, I think something that differentiates me is that I do not compare myself with others. I express what I feel and try to empathize and empathize with my clients. You always have to be yourself.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
There’s something I believe in, hard work earns talent when talent does not work hard. This is something that I have seen in myself and seen in others. It does not matter your titles, courses and the gift you have. If you do not work hard and constantly, there will be someone who does it better than you. And always try to succeed without stepping on others. Because you never know what story a person has behind.
