Conversations with the Inspiring Anna Chan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Chan.

Anna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in the cosmetology industry because I used to be a tad bit insecure about my appearance. I wanted to get creative with makeup and hairstyles so that I can overcome my insecurities, and I did just that. I love this industry because you leave a client with a “wow” moment. They are amazed with the work that I provide them with. They leave with such an amazing experience. Also, I love taking hair classes here in California so I can learn new techniques and new trends.

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, there are always going to be obstacles and tribulations in any industry. I always try to provide the best service possible because I want to have a loyal clientele whom they can trust to get their makeup or hair done by me. I would suggest anyone who is entering the industry to continue to master their craft.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into bb:meme Hair Salon story. Tell us more about the business.
I can say that the environment that I work at makes me feel comfortable they show me respect because of the clients I brought to the salon and the changes I made to the salon. I just want to say thanks to all my military clients for helping me build my clientele here in San Diego. When I say I changed my salon was the fact that no one brought in more balayage’s than I did before in the salon, and that right there showed my manager how I really appreciated working with him, even though the salon is not as famous as others. I actually see myself more as a hair colorist. I get so excited when my clients message me that they want to colored their hair instead of just getting a blow-dry or a cut. I’m actually proud that my salon is expanding my manager loves seeing diversity in the salon.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I know for a fact that women are good at empowering other women which is a good thing and I am all for it. If you are for women and empowering women, then you should know we can do whatever we want as long as we put our mind into it. There’s a lot of opportunities out there for us women. If we can empower all these women and girls that have big dreams and goals we can definitely transform the world. Women empower can enabler of human development and economic growth.
