Today we’d like to introduce you to Arianne Behbahani.
Arianne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve had a strong connection with food from a young age. Growing up in a Persian household, food was at the helm of our culture and home life so I grew up cooking and learning in the kitchen from my grandmother. I began working in my friend’s family restaurant at a young age on the east coast and moved to the Bay Area for college, working my way up through every “front of house” position in many different restaurants. After pursuing a master’s degree in Gastronomy in northern Italy, I returned to California with a desire to open a food truck bringing locally sourced, fresh food to people on the go. Shortly after that, I met Liam, my partner (in life and in business) working at a catering company and we decided to go on this food journey together.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. There are struggles every day, some get easier as new ones pop up. It requires a lot of energy and attention to run a business, so many unexpected things come up that can sometimes seem disastrous. You just have to roll with it and keep your cool to fix the problem. Sometimes you may even find yourself laughing about it later. Mental health in the food industry has been a hot topic of conversation lately and having someone you can talk to about the trials and tribulations of being a business owner can definitely help those feelings of despair and loneliness that arise when you feel like you’ve taken on too much. Some of the struggles you felt were the end of the world in the beginning will seem smaller and you will find out a lot about yourself and what you can handle and accomplish in the process.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Go Go Truck story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a food truck serving healthy comfort food. We try to source locally and organically when we can and utilize San Diego’s great local vendors. Everything is made in house, from scratch and we have some pretty amazing signature sauces that our chef Liam has created. I love that we can be a highlight in some people’s day when they take their lunch break. People get excited about our food and when they go out of their way to come back and tell us they loved their meal, it really makes all of it worth it for us.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
I would say the most important thing is to make sure to carve out time for yourself and your self-care. While times are few and far between when I can do something like put on a face mask or go on a hike, those are the times that keep me refreshed when work gets crazy. It is so important to keep your mental, physical, and emotional health in shape in order to be able to give your best to your business or career as well as yourself and those around you.
