Conversations with the Inspiring Carla Olson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Olson.

Carla, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Approximately ten years ago, I started photographing beach sunsets to capture the memories I was collecting at the beach. I was continually at the beach enjoying life and admiring sunsets. So, as I was snapping photos and admiring them, the desire grew from personally photographing to working as a businesswoman photographing.

The feeling is the best in the world because the photos are capturing special moments in time that are forever preserved by the photographic memory. I began my mission of buying one camera after another experimenting to help enhance my greatest passion on the planet, Photography. I currently own the camera Canon EOS Rebel T6. It serves my needs perfectly. It accompanies me everywhere. I do feel that great cameras can display a beautiful photograph, however, it is with the artistic eye which grabs that perfect photo.

My eyes are scanning the environment constantly always on the hunt for the next best photograph. Photographing is escaping into a blissful, meaningful, and satisfying world where it can bring about the highest sense of euphoria that allows me to continue photographing. This is a profession I will never tire from because it is so emotionally as well as spiritually rewarding!

Has it been a smooth road?
I do feel any profession that an individual enters is never smooth at first or always. Just like life, there are ups and downs. It’s the positive attitude that a person has that can sustain any setback. When I first started, I was still learning the trade so I had to continue to work harder and steady to achieve a higher level of achievement and recognition. I looked up to photographers who inspired me to continue and work hard never giving up. Competition is always there with any profession, but there is always room for the next new person on the block. Everyone has their own unique style and I encourage anyone that has a passion with photography to study it well and practice it!

After all, practice makes perfect! For all young women thinking about entering the photography field, do it for the love first and foremost. Then, whatever success level you reach, it will be meaningful! My advice is to get inspired by other photographers in the community, study the mechanics of photographing in school, remember to practice what you have learned because that is the key to mastering your Photography goal. Learning is an ongoing process, so never be afraid to continually learn and grow.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I feel very passionate about my photography profession. I photograph areas of the city that are unique, not necessarily given attention to, off the beaten track. I like to draw attention to places that are not photographed much and bring the beauty out of it. Of course everyone loves a beautiful sunset, and I love to capture them whether it Is photographed at the beach, desert, or mountains of California and beyond. I put much time, energy, detail, passion, love, and infuse my own creative perspective to the world of photography!

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I feel women should follow their passion and talent in life. Whatever your talent, have a strong desire for, just go for it! Opportunities are for those who work hard, never give in to negativity, never quit, and have the courage and confidence to go chase your dreams! I believe in equal Opportunity for everyone! Women can achieve anything they set their minds to!
