Conversations with the Inspiring Celesthe Salgado and Clarissa Martínez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Celesthe Salgado and Clarissa Martínez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We started working on Narrativa Studio in 2018. At the time, we were both working at the same Marketing Agency. We were putting lots of extra hours and lacking motivation so the idea of having our own agency came to our minds. One of us studied graphic design and the other one marketing so we thought that would make us a great team, we already knew how to work together and given that we had been friends since high school we didn’t think it twice.

It started like a side hustle when we finished our regular working hours at the agency we would work six more hours every day for Narrativa. We did that for three months until we decided to trust ourselves and quit our day job. At first, we worked in different coffee places and would invest almost everything we earned in the company, but it felt great to be building something that was ours. We kept working hard, networking and a year after that we got our first office and photography studio and we couldn’t be happier. We are doing things the way we believe they should be done, building long-lasting relationships with our clients, opening new paths for women in the industry and having fun in the processes.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We faced tons of obstacles, but fear was the main one. Fear of failing and not being able to actually build what we were trying to. Fear of not making enough money to even cover the essentials. Fear of ruining our friendship along the process. Fear of not having a good balance in our lives. Fear of not being good enough.

Fear hit us hard, however we stayed strong, relying on each other and believing in ourselves, also the support of our family and friends was always there.

Our advice and hope for young women is that they should always believe in themselves and work hard to achieve their dreams, but not too hard that they lose balance in their lives. Managing time wisely is key, as well as surrounding themselves with people they trust and believe in them.

What should we know about Narrativa Studio? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We believe in stories and in the people behind them. Our objective is to tell those stories through social media content, branding and photography.

That’s where the name of our business comes from. We are interested in hearing people’s stories and motives. We care about our clients and we like to get involved as much as we can to really understand their projects and why they decide to pursue them. This is how we get inspired and motivated!

We think that is what has differentiated us, actually caring for our clients because when you do, you give them your best.

Also being able to stay true to our principles through the whole process. Since the beginning we knew that we weren’t only creating Narrativa to help other business achieve their objetives, we also wanted to create an environment that values and cares for every team member of the organization and most importantly we wanted to motivate people and especially women to believe in themselves. That hasn’t changed.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Clarissa: I was taught since a very young age to be responsible, not to get anything in return or out of fear but for myself. That also taught me to be independent.

Celesthe: I had always been inspired by my mom and dad. My dad decided to create his own business since he was young and with my mom’s support he has managed to keep growing it ever since. Being a witness of my dad’s satisfaction of being a business owner and the freedom he has always had to be with us, his family, made want to pursue that type of life.
