Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea English.
Chelsea, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a Certified Makeup Artist and a Licensed Esthetician located in San Diego, CA. I first started doing makeup, along with skincare in 2007 when I received my Esthetician license. A few years after that, I realized that I wanted to dive into doing makeup full-time, so in 2011, I started working for M.A.C Cosmetics.
In a little under 3 years, I went from an on-call makeup artist to a full time, triple-certified makeup artist for M.A.C. As my clientele began to grow, I realized in 2014 that it was time for me venture out on my own and so here I am today!
I specialize in bridal makeup and teaching groups classes. I have extensive experience working with any skin type, race, and age. I love my clients and I am beyond blessed to be doing what I love!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As much as I love doing makeup, the road has not been easy. It’s a lot of work to get your name out there and to show people what you have to offer. I’m still working on it! My advice to other women is to not give up and to learn all you can from the people around you! Take classes, never stop learning and put yourself out there!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Chelsea English Makeup story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in bridal/wedding makeup. I am best known for how natural and clean my makeup applications are. All of my clients love their makeup and they say they still feel like themselves, just enhanced! 🙂
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I think one barrier to female leadership can sometimes be ourselves. As women, we can often get this idea in our heads that we couldn’t ever lead or be our own bosses. It’s not the case. If you want it, go get it and work for it. Earn it and don’t let you become your biggest hindrance. It takes time but it is possible. Get out of your own way and get after it! 🙂
