Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Schaffer.
Danielle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a NYC girl now living in beautiful SoCal. I was stationed here many years ago when my husband was in the military. We decided to pull the plug on the east coast and make Southern California our home. We love raising our 4 little ones here. I started blogging 3 years ago and it turned into something so much more. With a background in broadcast journalism, blogging was the perfect space for me to be creative. Ultimately, it’s a place where I share all my winning and failing as a parent. I have entered in some of the biggest campaigns of my career this year. Disney Aulani, Universal, Fox Home Entertainment and more… I also have a column on TODAY and have been seen on Fox and San Diego’s CW…
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t easy. When I had only a few thousand followers, other mom bloggers started to cyber bully me… it was absolutely crazy, but I didn’t falter. Instead, I just kept doing my thing and I grew and grew and grew. They eventually went away and I came out winning so, that feels good. Best advice is find your niche and stick to it… don’t be all over the place. Ask yourself why should other moms follow you?
What should we know about citygirlgonemom.com? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am most proud of my explosive digital campaigns I have done for several brands. My coffee video for Mama Java Coffee really shows my funny side. I wrote that script on a train ride back from LA. I also love my interview with some of the BAD MOMS that I did for Universal. That video landed me on the CW talking about embracing my inner BAD MOM…
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
I tried to ask others for advice and some don’t respond but the ones that are confident and know this is a community not competition will share… I have girls writing me all the time and I always respond and help them.
