Today we’d like to introduce you to Donetta Barron.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Donetta. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am born and raised here in the beautiful sunny San Diego. I started beauty school a year after graduating high school at the age of 19. Went on to work in a corporate salon for six years. After that, I decided I was ready to be my own boss and have been doing it ever since for the last five years.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This career has definitely not been a smooth road and still isn’t. I wouldn’t trade all the struggles or fails I’ve come across for anything in the world. After working at a corporate salon (not mentioning any names) for 6+ years, I decided to take a leap of faith and quit my job and work for myself. Thanks to a fellow friend, John Gaxiola who gave me the push to believe in myself and stop working for other people!
My advice for anyone just starting their journey is to work hard for what you want and believe in yourself enough to KNOW success will come & let nothing stop you! Trust me, you will have moments of fear thinking to yourself, “Oh man, did I make the right decision?” “How will I pay my bills I’m so slow this week?” “Maybe this isn’t for me!” But get out of your mind trust the process and just put your all into it and watch the success come. Also, always remember to never let failure discourage you. Learn from that and get even better, always stay humble and always keep learning! I’m going to say that again ALWAYS STAY HUMBLE AND ALWAYS KEEP LEARNING! You got this!
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I provide services such as haircuts, coloring, keratin treatments, styling & waxing. Services are available for everyone. Men, Women & children.
Being a curly-headed stylist, I do have a lot of curly-headed clients that I absolutely love working with and bringing out that amazing curl & encourage women and men to embrace the beauty of their curls! I am also proud to say that I have become confident with men’s hair just as much as women’s. I love being able to give a man a fresh fade, and also be able to give the ladies beautiful colors. It keeps a variation in my clients throughout the day which I especially love.
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
I do believe that a lot of childhood experiences have definitely molded me into who I am today! Coming from a family of very strong, hardworking and independent individuals I feel it only made me want to do just the same.
