Today we’d like to introduce you to Farel Hruska.
Farel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Thank you for the opportunity to connect and share my journey in the fitness industry and Chuze Fitness. I’ve been an athlete throughout my life, so the love of fitness and wellness kind of runs through my veins. I have always known about the power of healthy living from a performance standpoint, however, it was when I became a mom that I truly understood healthy living as a form of self-care… and a really important one at that! My time in the fitness industry has been spent in personal training, group exercise, education, and building & leading teams. Joining the team at Chuze Fitness as the Director of Education and Culture was truly what those years led me to.
I am deeply passionate about the overall mission that we live and breathe at Chuze Fitness and that is quite simply, to put people first. Our newest initiative to bring that into the light is “Chuze Self-Care”. We know that “self-care” means different things to different people so we are simply elevating the conversation to prioritize whatever self-care means to you. We believe that when we put ourselves first we can then impact others in a more meaningful way. When we care for ourselves we can then mom or dad better, work better, live better, friend better.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m not sure any road is smooth; however, the choices I make to view said road is what makes it fun! There have (and will be) obstacles that can either sideline you or “encourage” you to adapt or move in a different direction. The main constant has been my desire to make a difference in people’s lives, this industry, and the world and there are paths in life to do that. When one path of opportunity runs its course, it’s important to have the internal, emotional agility to change courses… that doesn’t mean it’s easy, but the mindset helps.
What should we know about Chuze Fitness? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I have been in the fitness industry for almost 20 years in many different roles; group ex instructor, personal trainer, fitness director, educator, fitness program developer, and leading teams. I joined the Chuze Fitness family a little over a year ago as the Director of Education and Culture and it’s been a fantastic evolution of my fitness journey! My approach in this amazing industry has always been about putting people first and that is the exact philosophy within Chuze…which is a shift that’s needed in our industry.
My position was created to expand and evolve our company culture of treating humans with authentic respect and intentional kindness. We truly understand the impact that this can (and does) have on the lives of the humans who walk through our doors. The education I’ve created over the years has culminated to this journey with Chuze and I couldn’t be happier.
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Great question! I was fortunate enough to be born and raised on the island of Oahu. Growing up on an island gave me ample opportunities to be in nature and live pretty simply. I gained perspective around what was “important” and what wasn’t. I find that I am able to pivot in challenging situations and choose to see the good because I was raised with the simplicity of the important things. Ultimately, our journey in life is directly connected to mindset. There is so much GOOD and choosing to lean into those things can make even the most challenging scenarios better!
