Conversations with the Inspiring F’Lana

Today we’d like to introduce you to F’Lana.

Born in Augusta, Georgia, F’Lana was raised in the church, singing in the choir. At the ambitious age of 12, she immediately began to cultivate her musical gifts by singing and creating unique arrangements for local artists. Her tremendous credits include a solo career with an independent label deal at 21, Producer Focus… (aFam Records), a publishing deal with Chrysalis Music Publishing in 2007, and in 2009 Rebel Made Music. Working with award-winning producers gave F’Lana a real hands-on experience in the music industry. However, after 18 years in the industry, F’Lana made up her mind to fully pursue her God-given purpose and calling. In her own words, “I just want to sing for Jesus”. In 2011, she released her first Christian single 2nd chance and in 2016, she released another single “Unstoppable”. F’Lana has been featured on several songs including “I will” by Mouthpi3ce and “With Everything” cover with Montell Jordan. She is set to release her next single on November 8th, 2019 entitled “Signs and Wonders” with Mantle of Judah Music.

F’Lana has served in various capacities in ministry and in 2017, after years of seeking God’s face, answered the call to move her family from Georgia to California. She had a desire to be involved in ministry at a greater capacity. She prayed and asked the Lord for a job where she would use the gifts He placed in her to bring Him glory. God did just that. F’Lana is currently the Worship Director at Rock Church San Marcos and continues to spark revival in the body of Christ. She is determined to share her testimony of deliverance and usher countless souls into a realm of worship and freedom.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It sure has NOT been a smooth road! All the times that I thought I was ready, I really wasn’t. God had to shape me, build my faith, and test my character. I had to give up things that at the time I thought were good for me, but later found out it was not. I had to relinquish affiliations. I ultimately had to listen to God’s voice, obey, and trust Him.

I had to seek healing from past sexual, mental, and emotional abuse. It caused me to become depressed, critical of myself and insecure. I do believe, however, that my journey will and is encouraging both men and women, helping them find hope and freedom!

The advice that I would give other young women is to not be in bondage by trying to please everyone. It will rob you of peace. Surround yourself with a healthy community and accountability. Do not give up prematurely, and do not abort your mission. Seek God for your purpose, identity, and direction… NOT PEOPLE!

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am currently the Worship Director at the Rock Church in San Marcos. I love what I do and I know that I am living in my purpose. When you are walking in your calling, your career will not feel like work. It becomes fulfilling and life-giving. I feel that my authenticity and vulnerability sets me apart from others. I don’t believe what I do is a performance, it’s not just singing but it’s ministry. I enjoy being a witness that God can change any situation that was once ashes to beauty. I have been set free from so much negativity and I want others to experience that same freedom.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My mother has been a big inspiration in my life. She was a single parent who overcame so many obstacles. She is truly a fighter. Recently, she has been tapping into a gift that she found out she had. It’s amazing to see the joy that she receives when operating in it.

Evelyn Ellis was my middle school chorus teacher. She taught me so much and increased my passion for music.

Carolyn Plummer is an amazing woman! She has an incredible faith journey that some could never walk. Her obedience and faith to God is mind-blowing! I so desire to one day be on her level. She really hears from God! It’s amazing to witness!

There are some others, but I don’t think I have enough space to write about them all, LOL! You know who you are!
