Conversations with the Inspiring Jackie Batts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Batts.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After ten years in the veterinary field, I started Esthetician school in 2001. Right away, I excelled in waxing and brow shaping. So, when I got into the salon, my career immediately just went in that direction. I have specialized in speed waxing, brow shaping, maintenance and care for the last 16 years. I have built a very loyal clientele and reputation for myself out here in the east county that I am very proud of today.

About a year and a half after my daughter was born, I decided to take the plunge into permanent makeup. I started with my first micro blading course, and immediately found out how many scam companies and schools are lurking in the beauty industry, ESPECIALLY in the permanent makeup/micro blading industry! After finding out my first schooling was an illegal set up, I immediately redid my fundamental education with a very reputable, internationally respected company, Deluxe Brows. From there, I have continued my education and currently hold 13 certifications including advanced color theory, and three non-laser tattoo removal certifications. With my extensive education, I find myself correcting or removing unsatisfactory PMU work, and sometimes being the last resort for people looking for corrections or removal. In the next few years, I hope to continue this and help more people, by extending my tattooing into medical tattooing! i.e. scar camouflage and areola reconstruction.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
In the 16 years that I have been an aesthetician, the only obstacle I ever encountered was realizing I should be an independent contractor. Which isn’t necessarily an obstacle, it was a blessing in disguise.

My permanent make-up journey has definitely been anything but smooth. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who intentionally will lie, cheat, and sometimes steal, just to get money from you. There is enough unethical opportunist out there, that have jumped on this microblading boom, that it almost ruined the industry.

Luckily, I have been fortunate enough to meet some of the most incredible, amazing, kind, ethical, giving and badass people in this permanent makeup industry too.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Brows by Jackie Batts story. Tell us more about the business.
I can talk for DAYS about non-laser tattoo removal and brow tattoo corrections! Fixing severely asymmetrical brows are super fun though too!

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I use Vagaro.com for all my bookings. All permanent makeup procedures, you need to be booked directly with me.

I’m addicted to Valerie Webers, Ink-Credible podcast at the moment! It has a ton of amazing guests and incredible PMU information!
