Conversations with the Inspiring Jeanie Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanie Clark.

Jeanie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been drawn to beauty, art, and tattoos. I took my first permanent makeup course in the year 2000. The industry was so different at that time. It is almost unrecognizable to what it has become today.

Watching the industry change and develop so much over the years, I knew that I wanted to get back into permanent makeup. About six years ago, after being inspired by a select few microblading pioneers, and understanding that this was going to be a game-changing method, I discussed it with my husband & decided to take the leap.

In 2016, I had brunch with my long time friend Angi Nelson and started sharing ideas and mimosas, at this time time, this decision was finalized to open our studio La Doyenne.

In addition to skill and technique, permanent cosmetics is a true form of art. It’s challenging. It’s addictive. It consumes my entire life. Calling it an obsession would be an understatement.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. While building the business, I spent many weeks away from my family, only seeing them a few hours a week. For me, that has been the most challenging part.

One of my biggest struggles has been overcoming my negative self-talk, building confidence in my work and learning how to be my own cheerleader. I am still on that journey.

My advice would be don’t give up. Own your accomplishments. It going to be hard. You’re going to cry. Do it anyway.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into La Doyenne story. Tell us more about it.
Angi Nelson & I co-own & opened La Doyenne together in 2016. We knew we wanted our studio to stand out from the conventional permanent makeup industry. We wanted our style to speak for itself. We partnered with our friends Crystal Fritsch & Caity Hall to design a beautiful inviting space where clients would feel a sense of confidence in our hands. The decision to tattoo your face is one we do not take lightly. We are extremely passionate about our work and our clients faith in us is top priority.

We only hire the best in the industry. Our extremely amazing & talented artist Vera Blatchley joined our studio at the end of 2017. She has been the best addition we have made yet.

We are such a diverse group of artists but we complement each other so well. We are also rapidly growing, so stay tuned.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
I think it is important to reach out to people that you admire in your industry. Valuing your peers and mentors will only add to your success. It has given me outside perspectives, encouraged me to keep learning and allowed me to grow not only as an artist but as a human being.
