Conversations with the Inspiring Jennifer Pennell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Pennell.

Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Ten years ago, I was in a successful corporate career, had a loving husband and family, and I was miserable. I thought I was going to have to implode my life. I found meditation or rather it found me, transforming my life out of misery and into well-being. While I still have my same husband and kids, I ended up leaving my six-figure salary, dove deep into meditation and now have helped over 150 clients reduce stress and anxiety in their bodies, through a meditation-based healing and regression modality. Everything I do is built on a foundation of meditation.

After I had been running my private practice for about a year, a friend reached out about running a workshop in San Francisco with her. We connected and from that came the Inner Wild Child workshop, which we’ve replicated in San Diego. I fell in love with the workshop format and have since developed two other courses. My work has become a mission in supporting women improve vitality, unleash creativity, reduce anxiety and be present in their lives.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My advice: Never settle for “good enough” and to always, always find a way to be playful in your life.

I let myself spend far too much time unhappy, seemingly trapped in a comfortable career because I was afraid to do what I really wanted to do. I settled for “good enough” and it eroded my happiness. My key now is when I am feeling tight inside and unable to find lightness or play, to check myself.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Shine Levity story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a play and meditation specialist with a unique approach to personal growth. I help women and girls explore play, as a way to improve vitality, unleash creativity, reduce anxiety and be present in their lives. I coach private clients to breakthrough patterns that are keeping them stuck. I also have facilitated over 15 workshops centered around play, meditation, empowerment, and wildness. In my one-on-one work, I use a meditation-based, healing and regression modality.

Ten years of intense meditation studies coupled with fifteen years as an executive search consultant, working with Fortune 500 companies, has helped me support over 150 clients reduce stress and anxiety in the bodies. The work I’ve done has given my clients more easeful living and better relationships with themselves, their partners and their life.

The work I do with people is life-changing and not for the faint of heart. But, it brings about real and lasting change. I am especially proud of how the work I’ve done with women is now extending to workshops with middle school girls.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
Elizabeth Gilbert for being a truth-bearing storyteller and creator of Big Magic, a book about creative living.
