Conversations with the Inspiring Jessi Petty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessi Petty.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jessi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I loved taking photos ever since I was little. I was lucky enough to have family that encouraged and supported my love of photography from a young age. I started taking photos as a hobby in the middle and never looked back. It wasn’t until I got married myself that I realized I wanted to focus on wedding photography. I love working with couples and capturing their love stories. Each story is different and unique.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My photography is an extension of who I am. A lot of work and heart goes into what I do. I am my own worst critic but I’ve had to learn to never compare myself to other photographers and to be confident in my own artistic ability.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Being a wedding photographer allows me to tell each couples love story in a way that words can’t. The most rewarding experience as a wedding photographer is hearing my clients say that I captured their emotions and the way they felt at that moment. I try to focus on capturing candid and real moments. Even when some moments are posted, I always encourage my clients to interact and let their personalities show.

One of the biggest things that set me apart is that I do my best to remain affordable. I realized how expensive wedding photography could be when I was getting married and decided that I wanted to provide an affordable service for clients without ever having to sacrifice quality.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I follow a lot of other photographers that provide some great insight, inspiration, and advice but my biggest motivation in life is my husband and kids. They have taught me to be patient, humble and understanding. They help me to be my best self.
