Conversations with the Inspiring Julia Rios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Rios.

Julia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Five years ago, I decided to take a break from college and pursue my dream of working as an actor in the entertainment business. And though it was a leap of faith I was determined to give this career my absolute best. And what a ride this career journey it has been I’ve worked for brands such as Target and Disney and starred in national commercials for Pepsi and Nissan, I even had a co-star role on the hit show Major Crimes. It wasn’t until I was on a surf trip in Pacific Beach that I began to feel a void in my fast-paced exciting life. Something about the beauty of San Diego’s ocean provoked this self-reflection and I soon realized that the void I was experiencing was that I never finished college. Following the surf trip, I returned to work in LA and after much contemplation, I decided to pack my bags and move to San Diego to finish college. To this day, I still commute to LA for work but my top priority is finishing school as I plan to graduate next year.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If there’s one thing I can share from my life journey, it is to give your best in all that you do. When you give your best, you’ll look back on your life and feel satisfied. This satisfaction will make you even more equipped for the next adventure life has in store for you.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m an actor and an athlete.
Most of the roles I’ve been given involve either surfing or skateboarding which are my favorite sports. Some of my most memorable projects was shooting with Pepsi Perfect for a commercial spot.
That role was particularly exciting because I performed my own stunts.
They originally casted me due to my skateboarding abilities but ultimately had me flying through the air as a hover-board girl, it was pretty epic.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
Women that have inspired me include: actress Nathalie Portman because she took a break from the entertainment business to receive her degree in psychology as well. She is also the most dynamic and fascinating actresses of her time. And surfer Bethany Hamilton, who is by far the best female surfer in the world and is a brilliant inspiration to all women and athletes.
