Conversations with the Inspiring Kiana Loomis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiana Loomis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a passionate personal trainer and fitness coach with a background in fitness nutrition and yoga as well. I began my profession in the fitness industry as a yoga instructor, which soon lead me into private sessions and ultimately, pursuing my passion for fitness and nutrition as an overall lifestyle.

Unlike many professionals in the industry, I actually had little to no interest in sports or fitness until after I had graduated high school. For most of my high school years, I suffered from depression leading to various eating disorders and an unhealthy relationship with food and exercise. After visiting with countless doctors, counselors, and dietitians and being threatened to be sent to an inpatient center for those suffering from eating disorders, I finally came to the realization that this wasn’t how my life was meant to be. I knew that I was meant for more, and in a time of desperation to find something to rekindle my joy for living, I discovered yoga. Yoga became an outlet for me to move my body without being so focused on my appearance or the way my body looked on the outside. I fell so in love with it that I wanted to share that feeling with as many people as possible, so began my journey to become an instructor.

After some time teaching yoga, I found myself constantly engulfed in the study of anatomy, how the body moves and functions, and the mechanisms that cause our bodies to change on a physical, mental and emotional level. Because yoga is less science-based, I found myself slowly shifting more toward the standard fitness industry and coming at it with a different perspective than I had in the past. I continued to study and eventually went on to become a certified personal trainer and obtain a certification in fitness nutrition and exercise rehab as well. With knowledge comes power and such was the case with my journey in fitness. I was now able to utilize the gym as a place to build myself and others up as opposed to breaking myself down.
There is so much misinformation in the fitness industry today that holds people back from reaching their goals and makes living the healthy and active life that everyone deserves to live so much more challenging and confusing than it has to be. As an advocate for evidence-based methods and someone who is passionate about the study of exercise and nutrition, I want to help people reach their goals and feel empowered through fitness and nutrition – the right way.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If you are just starting your journey in fitness, I cannot put enough emphasis on the importance of being patient with the process. The basic stuff is truly what works. It’s not sexy and doesn’t sound as cool as if I were to say I could get you the body of your dreams in three weeks, but it will save you so much time and money if you just trust that doing things the right way is what works best. If you are committed to doing things the right way, the changes might be slow, but they will also be long-term. If you are so eager to see results that you drive yourself to extreme measures, even if you see results short-term, you’re likely to end up right back where you started or even take steps backward.

Ultimately, find a nutritional protocol and exercise routine that you can stick to and learn to enjoy the process as much as the results and you will set yourself up for success.

What should we know about NirvanaFit? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As I mentioned, I’m a personal trainer and fitness coach. I train clients one on one as well as online. I train a wide variety of clients from those who have never stepped foot in a gym and are ready to take control of their health to those who want to compete in physique and bodybuilding competitions and everyone in between. I have certifications in fitness nutrition, bodybuilding, exercise rehab, powerlifting, and more. I love to learn and research! Regardless of the goal, I always emphasize the importance of evidence-based practice and setting my clients up for long-term success. My motto is ‘Strong. Sexy. Sustainable.” and my goal is to help people live a stronger life, feel good in their skin and find something that is sustainable as a lifestyle and steers people away from unhealthy or unrealistic fitness trends.

It breaks my heart that the fitness industry today is just that – an industry when it should be an education and a lifestyle. Marketing and scammy fitness trends run freely, all with the primary intention of banking on the misinformed but well-intending general public’s dime. It’s truly costing us our health because when people do decide they want to change, there is often no access to reliable or realistic information as to how to go about doing so. I want to be a reliable resource for people to reach their fitness goals and become the strongest, sexiest, most sustainable version of themselves that exists.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
As a woman in the fitness industry, I believe I experience both challenges and opportunities based on my gender.

Unfortunately, the hyper-sexualization of my body can often lead to people overlooking my potential for knowledge and a solid skill base in my industry. It’s frustrating, but at the same time, it’s this same body that allows me to empower others and prove that extreme and unhealthy methods aren’t needed to achieve a body that you’re comfortable with and live a healthy life.
