Conversations with the Inspiring Kirsten Bloom Allen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirsten Bloom Allen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kirsten. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a professional ballerina, actress and producer. Two years ago, I created ARC Entertainment Company, my creative concept for merging dance with rock music, art, and cinema. Whether I am on a stage or in front of a camera, I love performing and expressing myself.

Has it been a smooth road?
I became a professional ballerina at age 16. I did a work-study program in order to graduate high school and was performing and touring regularly, averaging over 100 performances per year, by the age of 17. I pushed myself a little too hard at the beginning of my career as a ballerina and had a few injuries. I had to learn how to maintain a strong work ethic with a balance of listening to my body. I am always pushing myself, but I have learned to listen to the signals my body is sending me when it needs a break from training. For me, it is very hard to take several days off, but I now know that rest and downtime are essential to a good performance and a healthy outlook.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into ARC Entertainment Company story. Tell us more about your work.
ARC Entertainment Company started off in 2018 with a bang by bringing ballet to rock concerts! We shared the stage with two iconic rock bands: The Wallflowers and Jefferson Starship. It was an incredible experience to meet the fans afterwards and hear how much they enjoyed seeing ballet at a rock concert. Many of them had never seen ballet before and expressed how much they actually loved it! In November of 2019 ARC released a music video to rock/metal band Disturbed’s song “A Reason to Fight” resulting in global media attention. Disturbed featured our music video across their social media platforms and it is currently receiving glowing commentary from their fans.

This January, ARC produced its first film: PAS DE DEUX. The film tells a love story that transcends time when two dancers meet at a mysterious private estate. PAS DE DEUX stars myself alongside male dancer Magnus Christoffersen and legendary rock artist Cy Curnin from the band The Fixx. PAS DE DEUX was written and directed by Jason O. Silva and choreographed by Tigran Sargsyan. PAS DE DEUX was featured in Billboard magazine last week where they premiered the exclusive release of the trailer for the film. PAS DE DEUX is currently making its rounds on the film festival market.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Women are incredibly strong and resilient. In the field of dance, there are many more women than men. Unfortunately, the supply and demand effect can make it more challenging for women. I believe that dedication, drive, and a strong work ethic collectively hold more power than anything else.
