Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristy Tran.
Kristy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been around the nail business. My family owned nail salons and worked at nail salons. My interest sparked at an early age. I’d consider myself a fast learner, especially in things that intrigue me. I started small and watched YouTube videos to perfect my craft. My co-workers are also really talented, so I would watch them and ask them for pointers. From there, I built a good clientele.
Has it been a smooth road?
Every journey isn’t always smooth, but like I said previously I am a fast learner so it didn’t take long to be “good”. I would say the hardest part was building my trust with my potential customers. You have to prove to them that your work would have a longevity. My advice to anyone wanting to start their nail business would be to stay open minded. There will always be better nail techs, but keep your mind on the bigger image. Your work speaks for itself, don’t get discouraged because of others. Practice makes perfect. People will criticize you but you have to keep a strong mind.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into KristyNailedIt story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a nail technician. I specialize in acrylics and designs. I’m known for taking pride in my work. I dedicate my time to my clients. I stay late hours just to make sure my client is satisfied. My work ethic is one of the main things I’m proud of. I work from early mornings till late nights and I’m able to get up every morning and do it all over. I don’t complain about working. My clients keep me going every day!
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Social media is a big factor to build your business nowadays. I’d advise people to follow big nail pages and message them to ask any questions. Even if they don’t reply, you can continue to ask others. I believe that closed mouths don’t get fed. Don’t be afraid to branch out and talk to others.
