Conversations with the Inspiring Lanisa Godlove

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lanisa Godlove.

Lanisa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It has been an amazing 13 years since I started in this industry and it has been a life-changing experience. I feel I can literally say I have the best career ever! I currently work in a private studio in the heart of San Diego and have dedicated the foundation of my business to building long and meaningful relationships with my clients. One of the biggest honors of my career has been becoming an educator for the Business Of Balayage. This team of amazing, talented artist is out of this world and we are like a family. It’s so hard to find a tribe that you fit into, let alone trust and I feel I have finally found my place.

Has it been a smooth road?
Like any other stylist, I had my struggles. Especially with staying motivated since I have always been in a private studio setting. But one thing I learned and would share with any other struggling stylist out there is to take a step back and find that one motivation that can kick-start your passion again. I fell in love with specializing in hair color, so I started reaching out to a local stylist and attending classes to better my craft and offer more to my clients. My clients saw and felt the change in me and I haven’t looked back ever since. I know a lot of stylists have children, other jobs or even just starting out in the industry, but the way I started branching out was watching online tutorials and signing up for online classes. Some through independent stylist and some through larger companies. Anything to get your mind going.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Hair Painting Diaries story. Tell us more about the business.
When you look at my Instagram, what you will find is a lot of natural, effortless, tousled styles. I specialize in creating a seamless and sunkissed effect for all my clients. Some require foils, root color, Balay wrap or more. But my end goal for every client is to teach them to embrace their natural hair color, but using techniques such as balayage to enhance the beauty that already exists. One thing I feel I have evolved from and most proud of, learning through much of my education, is educating my client. By doing this, we can both reach an end goal we are happy with and will also build trust so they can continue to return for the following years to come.
