Today we’d like to introduce you to Leeya Lueur.
Leeya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have loved makeup since I was a little girl and remember stealing my mom’s bright blue eyeshadow to play with. In high school, one of my friends came over to her prom to tell me she canceled her hair and makeup appointments and told me to get her ready. That was the first time, I had done a full face of makeup or styled hair on someone before and it turned out beautifully. I had always thought I would just be good at applying makeup on only myself, but thanks to her I changed my mind. I then got a job at Sephora and worked there for a small time until I started getting clients outside of work. I dove into freelance makeup work and have done it since. I am completely self-taught and continue to learn more every day with each client.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road it has been very stressful and scary at times. I stopped working at Sephora where I was making a solid paycheck every 2 weeks to now being on my own and having to market myself as well as figure out how I’ll get a paycheck. I struggled at first with the thoughts in my own head. I questioned if I could even become successful, I questioned if people were even going to like my work. My advice to other women starting their journey is to stay focused and never give up. You may have people telling you that you will fail, and success does not happen overnight. You may feel like you have put in so much work and haven’t had much success yet. If you continue to follow your dreams and believe in yourself there is nothing you can’t do.
what should we know about Makeup By Leeya Lueur? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a mobile makeup artist that travels to clients at any location for proms, weddings, birthdays, and every other occasion. I am the proudest of my success in following my dreams. What sets me apart from others is the love and passion that I put into each individual client. I have yet to leave an appointment without making a special connection with who I am working on and I don’t leave without feeling like they are fully satisfied with the look we created together.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
The most important advice I could give is to be your own support system. You will have people doubting you and you won’t ever have success if you don’t believe you can do it.
