Today we’d like to introduce you to Lety Carrancio.
Lety, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born and raised in San Diego, by immigrant parents. We grew up with very little and I was a very troubled teen. I dropped out of high school at a very young age. I enrolled in cosmetology school when I was 19. To be honest, I don’t know why I choose beauty school but I’m glad I did, I wasn’t doing anything with my life and I needed something to keep me out of trouble. As cliche as it sounds, beauty school saved my life. Once enrolled, I fell in love! I fell in love with the art and science behind it all and making people feel beautiful was just the cherry on top. I graduated and received my license in 2012. And I also returned to school and got my high school diploma at 23. I worked at a few beauty counters and salons but I never truly felt fulfilled. Until I was given the opportunity to do what I always dreamed of, and with the help and encouragement of my fiance (Thank you baby), whom I actually met while attending cosmetology school I was able to open my salon in January 2019.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all!!! Nothing worth having comes easy! I think my biggest struggles have been my own insecurities. I had to really take a step back and look at how far I’ve come for me to realize how anything is truly possible when you’re determined and work very hard. The best piece of advice I could give young women is to never give up on your goals and dreams. We, as women, are capable of so much! It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I love the beauty industry! I love anything and everything that entails with the beauty industry so any chance I get to play, I take it! I’ve done makeup and hair for photo shoots and commercials to just your everyday glam. I am a certified colorist and I especially love unicorn hair. I love being able to play with vivid shades and placement techniques to create artwork on hair. I’m also known for my fun vintage hairstyles. I love how the classic vintage look gives women confidence and makes them feel beautiful!
I think I’d have to say I’m most proud of the passion I put into my work. Everything I do, I put my all into it and I do it all with genuine love, and I think people can see and feel that.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I’m most inspired by my peers! I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by so many strong women who wear many hats. And seeing them handle so many things from day to day reminds me how we are capable of anything!
