Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Shields.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I spent the first 15 years of my professional career in sales and grassroots marketing. In 2010, after returning from a year-and-a-half traveling the world with my husband, I joined lululemon as a sales associate to reacclimate to working. Seven and a half years later, I had found my passion for leadership development and creating an engaging and fun work environment. In 2017, after listening to a podcast called “Capitalize on your Strengths,” I decided to completely pivot my career and pursue a position in Human Resources. I joined Organifi in January of 2018, and have been honored to grow this amazing organization from 25 employees to 100, bringing on a tremendous team of game-changers who want to elevate the world through health and happiness.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say it has been a smooth ride, but every position taught me something and equipped me with a skill set that I still use today. If you’re struggling in your current job, have faith that this is laying the foundation for you to look back one day and appreciate where you came from. We can’t have rainbows without rain. I would also encourage women to tap into what lights them up, what they enjoy doing on a Saturday and find a way to incorporate that into their job. I love supporting and encouraging people to live extraordinary lives, and I have found a company that allows me to do that every day!! Stay true to who you are. When your day-to-day professional activities align with your natural gifts and passions, you’ll never work another day in your life. I am living proof of it!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Organifi story. Tell us more about the business.
I am the Director of People & Culture. I wake up every morning with the intention of creating a work environment that fosters FUN, authenticity, playfulness, and connection while also achieving outstanding results. Organifi and the people that work there have become my family. There is an undercurrent of love and support that resonates throughout our office, it’s an energy that is palpable and people feel as soon as they walk through our doors. I feel so fortunate to work with a group of dynamic individuals that encourage me to be the best version of myself every single day.
What I’m most proud of as a brand is our commitment to transformation. We believe everyone deserves to be happy, healthy and feel a genuine excitement to be alive. Our brand strives to help as many people as we can live their best lives through our premium superfood products and our mission of “We’re In This Together!” This inclusive and altruistic mindset is the bedrock of our company, and one of the mains reasons I believe we’ve experienced unprecedented growth over the past five years.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Honestly, I believe what you look for is what you will see. I have yet to encounter any barriers in leadership, so I can’t speak to this authentically.
