Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Burns.
Maria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a 26-year-old Philadelphia native. I relocated to the southern California area at a young age. Moving was a difficult transition for me and I began to feel as if I would never find my path. After ten years of working as a waitress, going to real-estate school, and multiple college courses; I finally stumbled upon something I truly enjoyed… it started off as only seed but that seed quickly grew into a passion. I became obsessed with the art of Eyelash Extensions. I began researching, practicing, and teaching myself everything I could. I finally found my true calling. I wanted to be a professional eyelash technician. I enrolled as soon as I could into the Esthetician program at Advance Beauty College. After seven months of working full time as a waitress and attending school, I finally completed the program. I became a licensed Esthetician. I took my entire savings and applied for a loan. A few months later, I was opening my very first business, Live Love Lash Extensions. I quit my serving job and devoted my self completely to nurturing my passion. It took a lot of hard work and a few missteps along the way, but it eventually blossomed into something I am truly proud of. Live Love Lash Extensions may just be a small boutique in the heart of Orange County but because of my dedication to the craft and commitment to perfection, it will always stand out like a rose amongst the weeds.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Living paycheck to paycheck since 16 years old; it surely was not the easiest path to go through. There had been times where I felt defeated, I would question every move I made and second-guessed every decision I had to take. It was not the easiest journey and what got me through this was not giving up, staying positive and knowing any negative thing that would get in the way wouldn’t last and I would fight through it because of how important this is to me and how badly I wanted this. I believe for anyone who is just starting off or going through something similar in their life or beginning there career the best advice I can give is follow your passion no matter what and never give up. What you put into something is exactly what you will get back. If you are truly passionate about something, you won’t find an excuse to why it won’t work. Passion plus skills times effort equals success.
What should we know about Live Love Lash Extensions? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What I specialize in is classic lashes to volume as well as mega volume. I take great pride in the art and craft of lash extensions. Making sure every client is satisfied by achieving their goal in the specific style they request is what we strive to do every service. What stands me out from the rest is the perfection I put into my work, I specifically create my hand made volume fans and mega volume fans to each of my clients natural lash which takes great patience and practice to achieve the perfect look that I guarantee each time! I am very proud of my brand becoming as successful as it is in such a short period of time. I am looking forward to the future and what it has to hold for me in my new career.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
There are only two women in my life who had inspired me the most. My Mother Jeannette Burns and my sister Racheal Torcisi, not because they are in relation with me but throughout my life, I have seen them go through challenges and tribulations that I have never seen someone else go through. No matter how hard something was for them, they always pushed through it, and never gave up. They are the two strongest dedicated independent woman I have ever met in my life. My mother was a business owner with three children and had to balanced work life and her career while still having time for family. After years of seeing her struggle and doing the best she can by providing for herself and also for her children alone, she still came home to have dinner on the table with always a bright smile on her face. That inspired me every day. Racheal Torcisi, on the other hand, is book smart, an overachiever and obsessed with learning. Being a college graduate and now, a Nurse practitioner, she had been through a lot of life-changing experiences and she still stood tall and never let it affect her mind set on what she was fighting for. From all the pressure school had put on Racheal, from working full time and going to school full time she still managed to graduate top of her classes and I admired that the most. That proved to me that whatever you put your mind to, you can accomplish anything no matter how hard it may be.
