Conversations with the Inspiring Mariah Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariah Johnson.

Mariah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My passion for the beauty industry started in high school, where I was able to do my own makeup, and wear what I wanted to after coming from a Private Catholic School for ten years. This gave me the freedom to create art on my face and express myself through makeup. I also played sports growing up so I was always struggling with the girly side and tomboy side of me, but I tried to balance it out as well as possible. After high school, I planned on going to college for softball, even though beauty school was always in the back of my mind. I started my freshmen year of college continuing to play ball. Right before our season started, I made the final decision to quit and follow my heart and dreams of becoming an Esthetician and enter the beauty industry. I loved makeup so much and was always inspired by one of the biggest beauty influencers of today’s generation, Amra Olevic Reyes. She made me fall in love with all things beauty and from there on out the rest was history. I felt inspired by her impact on the beauty world and the way she made people feel, which intrigued me more. Not only did I want to learn more about makeup, but also learn about skincare which is the base to makeup. I had friends who struggled with acne, all I wanted to do was learn different ways to help them out so they can feel confident about themselves. After getting my Esthetician License and going through the process, it opened my eyes to a whole new world and feeling. I knew at that moment, that this was my passion and that this is where I need to be in life. All I want to do is make women feel beautiful, give them confidence, and empower them. Sometimes when you look good, you feel good and everybody in life deserves to feel this way at least once. My goal is to try and make that happen for all my clients and give them an unforgettable experience.

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, it hasn’t been a smooth road, nothing in life ever goes as planned but with that being said everything in life is always a lesson. After getting my Esthetician License, I worked with multiple franchise companies. I even had the pleasure of being a part of opening two new lash salons. Being under franchises, I felt that it was more business than pleasure for some, and more about quickly getting people in and out rather than focusing on the whole experience, and connecting with your client. This is when I knew I wanted to be my own boss. I took a leap of faith and one day, I just quit my job with no plan but I knew I had a vision in the back of my mind. So, I started working for myself and built everything from the ground up. I had to build my entire clientele up, marketing and promoting work, and ultimately getting the word out there. The beauty industry is very competitive, and really thriving right now. So, with the help and support of my family and friends, they have impacted my business and brought me many clients.

What do you do? What do you specialize in?
I am an esthetician, and the services I offer are; facials, chemical peels, waxing/threading, makeup, eyelash extensions, and eyebrow extensions. I specialize in eyelash extensions, facials and of course makeup. I’m most proud of turning my vision of Glow Doll Esthetics into a real-life dream and it’s only the beginning! I would say my authenticity, positive vibe, and good energy is what sets me apart from others. I always thrive to make sure my clients are always satisfied, and leave with an unforgettable experience. When you come to see me, I want you to feel comfortable, relaxed, and at peace for each service. My goal is to make sure my clients leave feeling beautiful, confident, and make them feel like they can conquer the world. It is a powerful feeling when you look and feel good about yourself. At least, that’s how I feel!
