Conversations with the Inspiring Mayra Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayra Diego.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mayra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started working on my Instagram a few months after I had my daughter almost five years ago. We had struggled with infertility and a miscarriage for five years until we became pregnant with Renata. I had my twin boys at such a young age and when we were finally ready to add another member of the family, it just seemed like it wasn’t going to happen for us. So, after five years of trying to have another baby, we were lucky enough to add one more tiny human to our tribe. My kids are 11 years apart and they have one of the SWEETEST and CLOSEST bonds. I get asked a lot if their age difference is a big issue, and honestly, it’s NOT. It’s actually been an advantage they are so loving and understanding with their baby sister and I love seeing that bond in real life and via pictures. I think back when I started my Instagram, the IG Mom community was just starting, and there were so many beautiful accounts starting to pop up, which really inspired me to start mine, as well. I’ve honestly always loved photography and my sons and daughter were definitely my muse to just start documenting life and capture those moments in life. I slowly started taking pictures of my kids, my food, my home, shot even my shoes lol, anything that sparked inspiration was on my camera roll. So yeah, ever since then, I’ve been juggling mom life, wife life, work-life, and Instagram life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures versus getting my picture taken, it’s something I still struggle with and still find a little uncomfortable sometimes. My advice on how to deal with that would be just do it, no matter how silly, or uncomfortable it makes you, because for me, at least it’s something that I’ll probably always deal with. That uncomfortable feeling is momentary but that picture with your kids, or even of just yourself at that moment in time is forever, your kids will never be that age again so take the picture. I also try to remember that little eyes are watching me and I don’t want my children to ever feel that type of insecurity. I deal with social anxiety in real life and on the gram. I mean, I vividly remember when I first started my Instagram feeling super self-conscious if I even wrote on someone’s post, and forget about sending a DM, that probably never happened up till maybe like a year and a half ago lol. Meeting new moms on Instagram, which has even lead to meeting them in real life has pushed me out of my comfort zone. I’ve made some amazing friendships through Instagram some super close and some miles away!

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m just another mom who wants to go to the bathroom without having kids banging on the door like the SWAT team and getting asked what’s for dinner again. Most of my content is based on motherhood, being a working mom and maintaining some sense of humor in all the chaos that is life. I try to juggle all aspects of my life and sometimes I do good, and then most of the time I have mountains of laundry waiting for me at home, lol. I think maintaining my sense of humor is what I am most proud of honestly, motherhood is tough and we’re all tired as a mother.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
YES, I love audible books and my selection can go from Harry Potter to Rachel Hollis’ “Girl, Stop Apologizing” real quick. Some of the best motherhood audible books I’ve listened to though are “The Magic of Motherhood”, which is a compilation of stories and experiences from different mothers. Rachel Hollis “Girl, Wash Your Face” and “Girl, Stop Apologizing” are great motivational books that will get you FIRED up. I also love “#IMomSoHard” it’s a book about a hilarious mom duo and their journey through motherhood. All these have either helped me feel not so alone in my mom’s feelings or have motivated me to get my butt up and do something about a certain way I’ve been feeling.
