Today we’d like to introduce you to Nakai McMurray.
Nakai, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Let’s start at the beginning, 13.8 billion years ago the big bang occurred… okay, maybe that is a little too far back. I’m going to speed this up, let’s go to the day I was born which was April 12th which means I am an Aries. Here is some information about Aries, it is a fire sign which means I have creativity, passion, and an independent side to me. All those characteristics represent me, I have always had big dreams for what I wanted to do in the world and my family has always been so supportive of it. One day, I want to be a therapist or a pediatric surgeon, then next a lawyer. Throughout all those phases, my family has always seen me as the person that I can achieve whatever I wanted to be. Right now, I am in the theater program in school and that has been so beneficial in my life, I am also working my first job. So, I would like to formally introduce myself as Nakai McMurray, I am a sixteen-year-old girl who is trying to become successful in the world or as some would say “make their mark.”
Has it been a smooth road?
I have faced some adversities in my life, my parents got divorced when I was young and that has been something have been dealing with till this day. When your parents separate at a young age, it does change your life completely, because you go from having this family unit to being at two different homes. My life has not been a smooth ride but I take all the hard things I have been through and look at it as trials from God testing my strength. My advice to anyone who goes through hard times is don’t try to push them out of your memories, they’re a part of your story, embrace them and don’t question why you had to go through it, look at how strong you are now because of those hard times.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of. What sets you apart from others?
Right now, I am a student which is so important to me. My biggest accomplishment is landing the first job I applied for at the age of sixteen, it meant so much to me that I got to see the working world first hand this early. What sets me apart from others is I don’t let my past determine my future, I am a hard worker, I never back down on new challenges, I’m always open to learning, and not afraid of being wrong.
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
My most memorable childhood experiences are traveling with my family every summer and individual vacations with my two grandmothers. I come from hard workers, business owners, and homeowners which motivates me to be affluent. Seeing my family work hard for everything they have in life and being pillars in their perspective communities motivates me to be the best I can be in my life. I have so many role models in my life and for that I am grateful.
