Conversations with the Inspiring Noelle Stapleton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noelle Stapleton.

Noelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a successful high-end hairstylist with $1 million in sales. I own two fabulous salons with numerous Master and Celebrity Stylists. Both of my salons are known for the upscale atmosphere and highly experienced talent.

My career started in Atlanta, Georgia as Educational Director at a top salon in the Buckhead design district. For 5 years, I served on a team of exclusive stylists for Saks Fifth Avenue Fashion Shows where I worked with top couture designers. My family then took me to Arizona.

In Arizona, I worked as an educational director for a top salon in Camelback Mountain. I wrote and customized their educational manual and executed the training transition. I worked with two other stylists on a Monday Morning Makeover segment featured by Good Morning Arizona 3KTV.

After moving to Carlsbad, I started my own in-home salon to accommodate working close to my young children. Finally, the time came to launch a small scale, exclusive studio salon that caters to those with a discerning taste for beautiful, classic, high-end hair color to compliment cut and styling. It was a pleasurable success so I then purchased Stainless Salon on the edge of Rancho Sante Fe and Encinitas.

The aesthetics of my salons features clean modern lines with style accentuated by highlights of industrial meets glamour. I hope my vision continues to meet the highest of standards of excellence and customer service as I intend to define!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with most rewarding careers, it has been a long journey and still a work in progress. Many things I learned from the beginning of my climb are still valuable lessons that I pull from to this day. For the most part, I believe that what I considered a set back at the time, ended up to be a necessary part of my journey.

Trying to have a career while being a wife and a mommy to two wonderful kids is a challenge for anyone. My career was always important to me, but my children always came first. My career would start to get traction and then my husband would get a transfer or my children’s school needed volunteers. It is always difficult to juggle normal daily lives with a successful career, but women have in the past had an additional challenge. We were assumed to have the burden of homemaker as well.

My obstacles were difficult but I wouldn’t trade any of my obstacles. These challenges make me who I am today.

what should we know about Stainless Salon & Noelle Styles? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I personally am a hairstylist, licensed in 3 states, GA, AZ, and CA. My salons offer an array of hair and beauty services. Noelle Styles Salon is a smaller studio salon that focuses primarily on all hair services, but also offers profile styling events that include hair styling, makeup, photography, and wardrobe services to project the bio profile image or event image the customer desires. Stainless Salon is a full-service salon and spa that offers hair, skin, lash, and nail services. Both salons are composed of some of the top stylists in the country and certainly on the West Coast. We have several award-winning and celebrity Stylists such as Billy Yamaguchi and husband/wife team Jean Marc & Michele DeAngelis. Stainless Salon maintains a 5-star reputation after 25 years in the exclusive Rancho Santa Fe/Encinitas region.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Admittedly, my industry of “beauty” has always embraced the female as powerful and capable. Early on in my career while still in Atlanta, GA, the greatest hairstylists in my region were men and they graciously encouraged and mentored me. I feel that it is unfortunate to hear from my executive female clients the struggles they have gone through in the corporate world to prove their capabilities to sustain leadership at the same level as a male. I believe it is much more work to maintain their stature when combined with the demands of motherhood and the perception that females aren’t emotionally strong enough.
