Conversations with the Inspiring Pam Kellogg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pam Kellogg.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was raised in the design business. My father had built a career in the paint and wallpaper industry and treated my family to tales from his day at work over our nightly family dinners. Fast forward to 1986, where I graduated from San Diego State University with degrees in Spanish and Business and headed off to join my father at his wallpaper company. I was eager to roll my sleeves up and learn from the ground up. I performed a wide variety of roles over the years from working the order desk to warehouse liaison and outside sales and service. Learning the operations, sales and business development from A to Z was imperative in my career development. I learned many critical lessons that have helped shape me as an entrepreneur today. I whole heartedly believe I’m at where I am today thanks to hard work, and I attribute the success of our showrooms to our team’s tireless commitment to excellent customer relations. I’m grateful to have learned a strong work ethic early on thanks to my parents. One of the greatest things my father has taught me is to take a risk when you believe in the end goal. I am blessed to still work alongside my father in our business all these years later, who says the greatest day of his professional life was when I became his business partner.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think any path to success is ever a smooth road. It’s often said that the outcome is sweeter when it doesn’t come easy, and I happen to agree. One of my challenges was learning how to be a working mom and not feel guilty about it. Despite working full time, I made every effort to attend all the sporting events, dance recitals, and school affairs. My kids were thriving and came to respect me as a business owner who was also focused on being a great mom! As they matured and began to communicate their respect, it made me feel so fulfilled. I truly believe that women have a responsibility to uplift and support other women. Let’s applaud each other’s success and add in a little humor on the days where the juggling act gets a little complicated. It’s also important to remember the journey shouldn’t be all work and no play. A little fun is essential!

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
There are many individuals who have inspired me throughout my life. My father is my mentor and an incredible business partner. My mother instilled family values in me and has always supported me. However, my children are my greatest source of inspiration. My son has grown into an amazing man who respects women and often tells me how proud he is of me. My daughter is an independent and free spirit who is fearless in pursuit of her dreams. Both of them work very hard and are proud to say “my mom’s a badass”. What more inspiration do I need than that?!
