Conversations with the Inspiring Rachelle Winchell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachelle Winchell.

Rachelle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hi, I’m Rach, I have been on a path to a cleaner and healthier lifestyle for two years now. On this journey, I have switched to safer beauty through Beautycounter as well as a few other clean brands. I have switched our diet from a highly-processed one to one filled with organic and whole foods. This journey to clean living has been inspired in part by the deaths of my father and my husbands’ mother. We watched his mother battle rectal cancer and it broke our hearts to see her lose the battle three years ago. My father had multiple health conditions but I believe the worst was depression. My journey to holistic living includes choosing nature over pharmaceuticals, talking to a therapist and having open communication with our children, being more mindful of the things we are consuming and spending our money on.

With lots of research and help from seasoned natural, low-tow friends, I am on a beautiful path of healing, hope and JOY.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has most definitely not been a smooth or easy road. The hardest part of trying to live a clean lifestyle is the fact that the FDA does little to zero jobs regulating the products on the market. Throw that in with companies “greenwashing” their products and it makes everything very confusing. Greenwashing means that a company can market a product as “natural” which would lead a consumer to believe that it is a better, healthier choice when in reality it may still contain harmful ingredients that could put your health at risk.

My advice for others is to start educating yourself, read labels, ask questions, email companies asking for answers. Do not support brands or companies that are not being transparent with their ingredients. Support local farmers, shop small and look to make connections when purchasing items for your household. I have been able to fill so many of my family’s needs by reaching out to our own community. It is a great feeling to support a neighbor and to know that you are apart of a strong community.

Lastly, stay positive and know that even one small change can make a difference in your health. This is a full lifestyle change so there will be ups and downs but ultimately I am striving to gain more knowledge to help keep my family safe and healthy.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
In this chapter of my life, I wear many hats. I work as an independent consultant with Beautycounter and help clients switch over to clean beauty and personal care products. I also work as an independent consultant for Doterra and believe that essential oils can be life-changing. Both of these brands source their ingredients ethically and responsibly. They both encompass what it means to live a low-tow and cleaner lifestyle. They also allow me to work from home and care for our two young sons.

What sets me apart from others is that I am genuinely concerned about making connections with my clients and helping them with their problems. I get so much joy from helping others and encouraging others to live their best clean life ever. I am also an advocate for cannabis and I use it daily to help cope with my anxiety. Having watched my father struggle with depression for decades while using countless different anti-depressant prescriptions was enough for me to take a closer look at the benefits of cannabis. I hope to spread more education about the benefits of cannabis over pharmaceuticals.

That being said, I am just a regular person who has been touched by loss. Most people have experienced loss at some point in their life, but most people do not fully heal from it. I am actively working on healing myself from within by many different natural and holistic measures. I encourage others to start their own healing process.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Find someone who is authentic, compassionate and that you connect with. Mentoring is a very personal experience that involves good communication and encouragement. I have found that by just having a positive attitude and putting out a good vibe into the universe, I have been able to attract similar and like-minded people around me.

I would also emphasize reaching out to your own community and building relationships with people around you. It truly takes a village to be able to survive!
