Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruby Lynn Fuentes.
Ruby Lynn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As long as I can remember, I have always had the interest to be in the Beauty industry. I can clearly remember styling, cutting and coloring my family members hair at 14-15 yrs. old. Having no training, let alone a license, it was something that came naturally to me. Later on, I attended beauty school and got my license as a cosmetologist. I started out as a hair stylist and later shifted to being a manicurist. I continued my education and received my certification in eyelash extensions, eyelash lifts, and microblading.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been quite the journey for me. I’ve made decisions that were tough. I walked away from a salon that was busy and had a constant flow of clients because I refused to work for an employer that didn’t value their employees. I started fresh at that point with no clients. Always asking myself was it worth it? Should I just go back? etc. But something always told me NO. Keep pushing. My manicurist sister, Thao, decided to open up a salon and the rest is history. She asked me to join her and I didn’t think twice. Literally starting from the bottom. It was tough. No clients. Bills to pay. Mouths to feed. Rent to make and no one to service. October 2018 will be 4yrs in business.
What I’ve learned is keep pushing. Believe in yourself and bring out that “Thing” that sets you apart from everyone else. Invest in yourself by continuing your education, it is key! Practice, practice, practice. Dont be scared to try new things. Never get too comfortable, this industry is constantly evolving.
What should we know about Hush Beauty Lounge? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The top services that I provide are microblading eyebrows, nails, and eyelash lifts. I really enjoy each of these differently.
Microblading eyebrows can be very emotional to some clients. So, being able to provide them with such a transformation and seeing their joy is very uplifting.
Our manicures and pedicures are always a great time to educate our clients on proper nail care and application. That really sets us apart from other salons. We encourage everyone to observe and ask questions when getting a service.
