Conversations with the Inspiring Ryan Hughes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Hughes.

After writing and performing with several local bands, Ryan recorded an album of songs he had written while collecting unemployment. “Full of thumping bass lines and infectious melodies, ‘No Job, No Worries’ is a gritty and soulful E.P. on which he plays every instrument.”

The demo caught the attention of a few people including Ryan’s future bandmates with whom he would start the San Diego based band Crucial Blend. Ryan is currently performing with Crucial Blend as well as producing other projects.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I write, perform and produce music for the band Crucial Blend. I went to school for music production and operated a home studio in Ocean Beach, San Diego. Crucial Blend is about having fun, creating music and Unity.

The band is an outlet for me to get out my feeling and lyrics. We try to keep a positive message; however, all situations in life are not positive, I try to take negative situations and make them a positive thru the music.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
It is up to the artist whether they want to tackle global issues. Some just want to make music about having fun and don’t want to concentrate on any serious stuff.

My old lyrics used to always be about me, I’m now trying to write more about social issues.
