Conversations with the Inspiring Sacha Hope

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sacha Hope.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sacha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am an artist and painter. I also mentor and tutor art students in my home studio.
I have always been a creative and was raised in a family of musicians. It was a wonderful environment to foster inventiveness and confidence. I was exposed to so many different cultures and people of varied socio-economic diversities. Mine was a childhood rich in knowledge building and a great source of inspiration.
My art career as a painter did not begin until 2004. Before that, I was working in Publicity and Marketing in the Hollywood Film Industry. As much as I loved the buzz of Hollywood, I could just no longer stomach the in-authenticity of selling celebrity. I began painting in 1997, but just as a form of self-expression and as an emotional outlet. After several years of experimentation and play with paint, I was finally ready to sell my artwork. I attended many art shows as a vendor and began slowly to find clients and commissions for artwork in my own distinct style.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey to becoming an artist is a tenuous series of steps. You spend a lot of time hiding away creating your designs and flushing out ideas. Magic doesn’t happen overnight, but when it does you have to let it flow through you onto the canvas. Art truly is in the eye of the beholder. I discovered a long time ago that I have to paint for me, and not just to sell. That is the advice I would give someone starting out. You do not become an artist simply to create work for someone else. You need to have a true love for the whole process. The piece that sells is almost never what I think will sell, it is what speaks to the viewer.
I love to watch people discover art.
I love the conversations a particular artwork can start.
I love that sometimes you can just be lost in an artwork’s beauty and depth.
“Finding your joy is a gift, savoring it is a choice.”

Please tell us more about your artwork, what you are currently focused on and most proud of. What sets you apart from the competition?
I work mostly in the acrylic medium and sometimes with a little mixed media. I am best known for my vibrant and cheerful paintings that play with vivid color. My styles swing from contemporary, pop art to post-impressionism. I love the abstract but appreciate the under-body of a realist. I won’t be pegged down to one thing, I have too many ideas to be locked into any particular style for too long. “I paint because it lets the sunshine through me!”

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
There has never been a better time in history for women artists. Doors that were formerly closed to women are opening up and welcoming us. Museums are excited about forgotten female works and are launching exhibitions everywhere around the globe. We still have a long way to go, but the momentum is real, and we are ready to show our talents. I truly believe women artists need one another. We inspire and push each other, we help one another grow. We are cheerleaders, patrons and supporters of each other’s works. We must buy, view, and promote one another. I am a member of several local art groups and guilds. I continue the fight to keep art in Public Schools and volunteer much of my spare time to community outreach programs.
