Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Rezendes.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Samantha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I kind of stumbled upon the opportunity. I was living at my mom’s house and we had a family friend living with us. She taught me how to make them and showed me her supplies and it all just kind of happened. She had designed a brand for me based on a name we came up with along with the help of my mom. My mom is a business guru and she helped me develop the brand and pricing and basics of the business. I was in college at the time for a business degree; it was a great experience seeing all the ins and outs and challenges that come with business start-ups and what it takes to own and run a business.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a learning experience. It’s been pretty smooth, but I’ve had so much support from my family, helping me produce, set up, and sell. I’ve had so much support from my community too and it’s hard at times and overwhelming, but to me, there’s no better feeling than someone telling me they love what I make.
what should we know about Dandy Candles Wax Co.? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I make homemade, hand-poured soy wax candles. I switch up my scents seasonally and I love introducing new scents and getting feedback about what people like. I think my customer service really makes a difference. My community around me, family, and my friends have done so much to support me. Sharing my products with others, ordering bulk orders for bridal showers, baby showers, and even wedding gifts, and I customize for them at a discounted price. I meet my customers in the middle for a great quality product at a good price. I even deliver locally. In turn, my community shares my products and I’m able to share my products with more people.
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Honestly, I’ve just been so lucky having a mom as knowledgeable and as supportive as mine. She’s constantly there to give feedback and support (even now I don’t like with her) and she’s always believed in me and given me confidence to try new things. There are so many small business owners all over. Through vendor events and street fairs, I’ve met incredible people who have shared other events with me and it’s just a very supportive community to be part of.
