Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Mora.
Sandra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Everything started when I was a young girl, my favorite doll game was to be a banker, count money and sign papers of my business, I clearly remember all details and how exciting it was for me to play with money and a calculator. As I start growing up, I got sidetrack from my dreams like all of us do and I started focusing on what it was expected from me “right thing to do” go to college, get a degree and work for a great corporation with great benefits and everything was going to be all right. I did go to college got a finance degree, huge amounts of debt, divorce and I wasn’t happy at all. I couldn´t understand why it was so hard as a Latina to control our money and lives, I had to remind my self my real dreams.
I had to pause my life and realize I didn´t want to be control or stress by my finances and society. I decided to make a change, find my passion and start living the life I desired. I was introduced to the insurance and finance industry and realize the opportunities in this industry, me being a young woman Latina, it was very exciting and daunting but also a little bit scary, not knowing exactly what to actually expect from the industry.
I made the decision to start my career as an entrepreneur in this industry doing what I love to do. I created a plan to follow and even with the plan in place, it hasn’t been easy, every day you learn something new.
It’s been constant motivation and action, getting out of my comfort zone every day.
It’s been three years since my life changed and the ride has been amazing, How I got here? Everyday reminding me why, and not only self-reminders but also taking action.
To be honest, I am barely starting, I am on the journey right now, I don’t feel I have arrived but I know I am getting somewhere and going somewhere and that is something that excites me and challenges me and as an entrepreneur, something that I love is that I keep growing every day in all aspects.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a difficult road but also very rewarding as well.
The main struggle is finding a balance in managing time wisely, also, the fact that you can get stuck managing a business instead of growing a business, having a plan in place is crucial and sometimes its so easy to just jump to the unknown without a plan. Another struggle is in my industry women faces more difficulties since is a male-dominated industry, and on top of that, being a Latina.
Yes, find your true purpose, passion a make a plan, a real business plan, this will help you achieve your goals faster, don’t start this journey without being prepared. Don’t let anyone discourage you and don’t let your fears to take control of your actions. Remind yourself every morning why you choose your journey, GET INSPIRED AND MAKE IT HAPPEN, SINCE ONLY ACTIONS LEAD TO REAL RESULTS.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I run my agency that focuses on P&C (INSURANCE) and TAXE, along with my business partner, but I specialize in helping families with their finances creating a plan, budgeting, implement products and strategies that will help them accomplish money goals, get out of debt, savings, retirement, life insurance, and change financial habits. My passion is Latinas since there is more inner work when it comes to money and more need to become money savvy.
I am known for helping latinas changing their money habits and actually understanding the importance of controlling our money.
I am very proud of the changes I have seen in my clients and also to become the to go, person when it comes to any financial questions.
Brand: Raise awareness and helped my underserved Latino community.
What sets me apart? I have been through the money challenges that a Latina faces financially and understand my clients when they try to make changes, being bilingual in this industry helps me tremendously too. Also, being able to help in all financial needs from planning to implementing.
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Definitely, I wouldn’t be who I am now if it wasn’t for those experiences. Graduating from college unhappy, having a corporate job, getting a divorce at a young age and being drawn in debt got me to where I am today.
I had to go through all that to understand my purpose and passion in life. I have a phrase that I repeat often “If I have to go through what I went through five times more to be where I am today, no doubt I would.”
