Thanks for sharing your story with us Serena. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We’re all destined for something BIG. Knowing you’re destined for something big is one thing and figuring out what that is though is a whole other story. In 6th grade, at age 11, I accidentally started my first business. Ever since then, I always knew I would be an entrepreneur.
For a long time, I was struggling to figure out what my purpose was. It was painful and my mental health was suffering. I faced chronic depression, an eating disorder, and substance abuse. Discovering my purpose started with healing myself. I was seeking peace from the inner turmoil which guided me on the path I’m traveling today. From yoga and meditation to sound baths and Reiki, I dove fully into it all.
Through this process of healing myself, I learned how powerful we ALL are. After becoming a yoga teacher, Reiki master, and meditation guide I discovered a formula that worked to live my best life. I realized it was essential to share the magic. That’s when AKASI was born.
AKASI’s mission is to create the New Earth! An Earth where everyone is living the life of their dreams while playing, connecting and expanding. We are here to create a global shift, one person at a time.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If it’s been a smooth road for anyone I would say they’re lying! Challenges are part of the journey. Obstacles invite us to learn and to create new perspectives. They are a golden opportunity for transformation. Of course, there have been struggles. Without these struggles, I would not be who I am or where I am. They are truly a blessing.
The struggles that stick out the most for me as an entrepreneur are the internal challenges. The doubts, the fears, the second-guessing. Honoring myself and trusting my decisions fully, despite the well-intentioned opinions of others, has taught me a great deal. I have learned how to stand up for myself while remaining compassionate in my power. I have learned not to allow the doubts and fears of others creep in and deter me from my mission.
As an entrepreneur, if you’re doing something different, people may not understand your vision and you’re probably going to be told you’re crazy a lot. If people aren’t telling you you’re crazy, you’re not dreaming big enough.
If something keeps presenting itself as an issue I usually feel that is a sign to pause, listen and potentially change direction. I believe in alignment. I think the whole hustle culture that’s currently trending is something to be looked at. When you are aligned, things flow with ease and grace. Life is meant to be simple and fun. We’ve been told a different story and how’s that working out for everyone? Not so great from my perspective. I encourage everyone to question the stories we’ve been told.
The biggest advice for anyone, entrepreneur or not, young or old, male or female, anything in between, I believe is compassion. Practice compassion for yourself constantly. You are doing the best you can with what you know in each moment. Give the compassion and love you so easily offer to others, to yourself. In addition, the thing you’re meant to do won’t just come to you. It’s important to try different things and see what sticks. Find what lights you up. The life of an entrepreneur is constantly learning things you don’t know. Get ready for a magically wild ride.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I absolutely love this question. This perspective is so important since the media tends to focus on sensationalizing problems rather than finding solutions. The world is shifting rapidly and I believe there are an infinite amount of opportunities for women.
The feminine essence is creative and resourceful so I feel many of the opportunities will be self-created. Women are disruptors and innovators. Instead of waiting around for opportunities to present themselves women are stepping out of the old, traditional structures. We are creating opportunities for ourselves. This means literally anything is possible. Going forward, I see female owned and operated businesses in industries that don’t even exist yet.
