Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvette Garcia.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Yvette. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started back in 2017 when I posted my very first picture on my Instagram “@dayswitheve”. I was a 24-year-old newlywed and loved taking photos of my OOTD’s, deals I’ve found, makeup looks, you name it! I was also attending college at the time to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, that is until I took a certain test that would change my life forever (and I’m not talking about a final).
I became pregnant and had my daughter August of 2018, just a few days before my anniversary to be exact. After having my daughter was when I really started getting more into blogging but instead of doing my usual selfies it started becoming more about my life as a working mom and a wife. I prefer using the term blogger rather than influencer because I feel there are so many influencers out there trying to share some of the same products or ideas to others and that’s great but something I don’t really do. I love posting pictures about my life, my daughter, things that I’m currently loving, and any struggles I may be facing. By doing so, I started attracting more moms and have built an amazing community of women going through so many similar things that I was. From dealing with your nervous first-time mom jitters, postpartum depression, and getting to celebrate other moms and babies that have reached special milestones. I have been blessed by so many different moms I have met and I hope to do the same back.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road, both motherhood and having a blog. I feel like with social media becoming so big nowadays there is so much judgment. You have to be able to learn that not everyone is going to agree with everything you post or do and not everyone is as perfect as they seem online. I’m a working mom myself so I feel guilty when I’m at work and I see others getting to enjoy their children all day. Some people assume I’m selfish for wanting to work to be able to have some “me time” but it is honestly what helps keep me balanced. In order to be a happy mom, you need to be a happy woman first! For anyone who is wanting to start their journey in blogging or becoming an influencer, I would say go for it! I’d also recommend being 100% real. That’s how you truly attract your tribe. Post whatever you feel like posting. Whether it’s a pretty picture that was posed and with a filter or just something you snapped fresh from your camera or phone. I would also recommend not paying attention to the number of followers or likes and to really communicate with your followers. Doing that has helped me meet some amazing people.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m just your everyday mom who loves to post pictures of her family. I rock a mom bun during my 9-5 every week and let my hair loose on the weekends. Being at work all week allows me to enjoy the time I have with my family on the weekends while getting to enjoy new places and capturing it to share with my friends.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I never really listened to many podcasts until I became pregnant and started listening to Super Mamás. It is a podcast which is about 2 sisters from Oaxaca, Mexico who now are based in Los Angeles that have interviews with different women/moms/entrepreneurs. I loved tuning in while I was pregnant because it helped me become prepared for my daughter’s arrival. I was able to listen to different people’s stories and how they handled every situation. It also taught me that you could have a baby and still be a mom boss whether it was running your own business or working your 9 to 5. It’s actually helped me want to start my own business which is currently under the works. I hope to have it up and running by next year! (Fingers crossed.)
