Today we’d like to introduce you to Zeinab Ghais.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Zeinab. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been working in the art and design world for over twenty years, drawing upon my unique upbringing, training and skillful eye to infuse my art and designs with color, textures and natural influences. Growing up, I was surrounded by a family of creative types, who helped me hone my talent. I earned a BFA in Furniture Design from Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, GA.
I began my studies in interior design and migrated into designing and building furniture after realizing the joy that working with my hands gave me. After college, I worked as a furniture designer and slowly moved back into art and interior design. I relish in challenging to push myself out of my comfort zone as an artist by trying different techniques and mediums. When designing a space, my philosophy is client-centered. I believe that space should be a reflection of the person who lives in it. I enjoy bringing a fresh perspective, energy, as well as infectious charm to every new endeavor.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey has led me down a few bumpy roads but I never lost sight of the big picture, which was believing in myself and my talents. Over the last twenty years, I have co-owned two art galleries and two antique stores, which all offered me a chance to continue to create and hone my artistic talents. The best advice I could give is to keep going and don’t stop believing in yourself! Challenges are meant to make you stronger. You can choose to walk away or slay that dragon and become the Goddess you are meant to be!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Those that know me well dub me as a Renaissance Woman. My specialities are not limited to one thing. I like to say that I can design your home, your yard, and you! I have often cut out the middle man since I can design, decorate, landscape, paint, create artwork and more! I have never been afraid to get in and get my hands dirty. I am proud to see how I help people live their best lives in spaces that truly reflect their lifestyle.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My grandmother and my mother are the two women who have inspired me the most. When my parents divorced, we moved back to the US and in with my grandparents. My grandmother was always teaching me to cook and showing me how to garden. She taught me to love the earth and to talk to all plants. She was such a strong woman who pretty much raised all of her five children.
Then there is my mom, who naturally inherited all of her mother’s traits. Her career took us on a journey across the United States during all of junior high and high school. It showed me how resilient and strong she became after all she had gone through with our dad. She has always been my biggest cheerleader and never let me give up on myself.
