Conversations with Janessa Pacheco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janessa Pacheco.

Hi Janessa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I’ve always felt like I’ve had this creative side to me that I never took seriously. I loved anything that dealt with arts and crafts, painting, drawing, designing, decorating etc. I was always told that I was good at those things but never really did anything about it because that wasn’t what I wanted to pursue as I got older. My childhood dream was to become a pediatrician, but as I started to grow up, things started to shift, and my hobbies became my passion.

As a child, I loved to decorate my room, and I think that’s where it all started for me. I would come up with my own color scheme then pick the furniture, light fixtures, curtains down to any accessory that I thought would fit my room’s aesthetic. To this day, I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve changed the themes to my room/rooms I’ve had. Then at the age of 15, event planning came into the picture. I planned out my whole sweet 16 with just a slide show that I showcased to my parents. In the slide show, there was a few themes to choose from and each one had a color scheme, invitation options, set up details, food inquiries, outfit options down to the music I wanted played. With the support of my parents and my family, my vision that I had for my party came to life. After that, I became the event planner for my family and was able to get a great amount of experience. Now today, a recent graduate with a B. An in Interior Design I am the founder of Honey Design Events.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle I’ve overcame with this journey would be following my creative abilities. Going into college, I first majored in Biology in hopes to see if my childhood dream was still alive. Unfortunately, that was the worst year I could’ve experienced. I didn’t like going to school, my classes were not at all what I excepted, the material being tough wasn’t coming to me as easy. I ended up taking a whole year to just focus on regular GE classes and to mainly find myself. I felt so lost because being a doctor was what I wanted to do since I was a child. After a year went by, I ended up switching my major to Interior Design, and let me tell you that was the best decision I could’ve made. I then got a lot of “wow, that’s a huge change” or “that’s totally different then a doctor,” but I was happy so it didn’t matter to me. Going to school became enjoyable after that, the material became interesting, I found myself wanting to go and learn more about it. Assignments didn’t feel like assignments. That’s how I knew this was what I was meant to do all along.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I would say to follow your passion no matter what. Your best work will come when you are passionate about what you do. You create your own life, so why not create one that you enjoy. At the end of the day, what your meant to do in the world will come to light you just have to go for it and take the risk.
