Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Litthachack.
Hi Abigail, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started my art endeavors as young as twelve in Mrs. Breyer’s class at San Marcos Middle School. That’s where she used history to teach us different forms and techniques of art. However, my passion for art came from being raised on a farm with my grandparents and parents. I remember waking up to the chickens and ducks and the slaughtering of pigs and turkeys. I just remember my family always surrounding me, and that sparks joy in me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. One of the biggest struggles I faced and continue to face is myself. I designed two t-shirts in black and white that explain my inner pain. I call it my “Polluted Heart.” In this piece, I let out all the pain that I don’t tell… which brings me to my “Broken Lips” design where I feel I have been silenced. These two pieces were drawn when I was 18; one, we’re expected to decide what we’re going to do for the rest of our lives without the proper guidance in school… two, my best friend, who I ran the school with as senior class officers?…. Her little sister started dating my ex-boyfriend… three, my “best friend” started secretly dating my ex and first love behind my back during prom. That’s the tea. And my inner joke: “I’m either reeeaaaally good at picking boyfriends or reaaaaaally cruddy at picking friends.”
Outside of the drama that could have been resolved with simple conversations and honest confessions, my home life wasn’t the greatest. My dad is undiagnosed suicidal, and this is why S.AT.I.A is an advocate for mental health. I don’t want to go into detail about the trauma it’s caused me… Just wait for me to write a book about it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a multifaceted artist/creator. I draw (charcoal, oil pastel, chalk pastel, sketch), I paint (acrylic, water, oil), and I embroider (by hand). I also believe writing is one of my strong-suits and I do have a children’s book ready for illustration… I just get a bit anxious sharing my stories… I believe I’m most currently known for as the-girl-who-does-too-much because I am always networking and helping people follow their dreams towards a more unconventional light. I’m also known for my embroidery on canvas, and I’m currently in a vaulting phase before I release my next pieces called “Ocean Angels.”
And if I’m being honest? Staying alive is an art form within itself. And after my accident in October 2021? My greatest and most proudest accomplishment I have is waking up every morning and feeling like I have purpose.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
