Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Waxman.
Hi Abigail, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, I’m Abby! I’m a young creative based in San Diego. I grew up in a household that nurtured creativity & allowed me to express myself through various means. Whether it was dancing, sketching, writing, knitting, designing, creating movies or taking photos, I was always encouraged to draw my own path. After graduating High School, I uprooted my life and moved to New York City, where I attended Parsons School of Design and majored in Strategic Design and Management. It was the perfect program for me because it supported both my entrepreneurial & creative mind. For once, I felt like I was in an environment that fostered creativity. As context, I grew up in the Bay Area and never quite fit the competitive conditions. Test-taking and, particularly, math gave me anxiety & oftentimes, I felt less than my peers despite taking a heavy course load.
Living in New York City was a whole new territory; it allowed me to explore a part of myself that I had started pushing down to “fit in.” Likewise, it also taught me how to take care of myself and navigate a quasi-adult life at 18. The more I leaned into my authenticity, the more opportunities seemed to arise.
During my four years, I had the pleasure of Interning at Startup in the Fall of 2020, where I helped run their social media, sparking my interest in Social Media Marketing. Then, In the fall of 2021, I had the honor of interning at Sakara Life on their Ambassador Marketing team. At that moment, I had started leaning deep into my Spiritual side and wanted to learn more about the Health and Wellness industry. The term “Holistic Health” was at the peak of my interest, so this job aligned almost magically.
After, in the Spring of 2022, I Interned at a Vegan Restaurant called PLANTA, where I helped with Graphics and Media. On the side, I started to build my first Social Media account, where I focused on Spirituality, manifestation, and finding alignment within. At the same time, I was working on my college thesis, creating a cafe called “Int3rtwin3d ” (linked in my portfolio) that focused on sustainability, fostering + supporting the community, and celebrating the mind, body, and spirit!
Post Graduation, I decided to uproot my life again and move across the country, but this time to San Diego!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not! It wouldn’t be life if it were all smooth, nor would I want it to be. I’ve struggled a lot with myself worth in various aspects, but my Spirituality has helped me navigate these emotions. Especially in the past 9 months myself worth has been tested! When I first got to San Diego, it was a big slap in my face. Not only was I in a new city, but the lifestyle forced me to slow down and reflect. Lots of inner turmoil came to the surface that I had previously ignored. Honestly, for the first few months, I was in Hermit mode trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Looking back, I was ignoring my intuition since I was too afraid of going after what I wanted. Like everyone, I feared the judgment of choosing something “different.” I knew a 9-5 was not for me, but I spent so much time trying to convince myself that it was (until now). So, if you’re reading this my biggest advice would be to go for it. Whatever it may be, do not let your inner fears or the judgment from others stop you from taking aligned action into the life you know is meant for you.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Right now, I am doing a bunch of different things, but my main focuses on Photography, UGC, Personal Content Creation, and helping others gain and maintain a strong self-concept (so they can start living the life they dream of)
Whenever I work with others, I love getting to know them (if they wish to let me in). In Photography, it helps me capture their essence & in Spiritual work, it helps me understand them so that I can assist them in breaking down self-imposed blockages!
In terms of Personal Content Creation, I want my account to feel like a safe space! I tend to feature self-care/ love tips, spirituality, local food recs, travel, and more! My account is a direct reflection of myself, and I have enjoyed the process of creating a beautiful community.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was very imaginative. I loved playing fairies, writing in my diary, and creating stories in my head. I spent a lot of time in nature climbing trees and romping in fields. I was also a very sensitive child and always wanted to know what was going on around me!
It may sound funny, but over the course of my life (thus far), I’ve always had a feeling that I was meant to help people/ animals in some way, shape, or form, and it feels good that I have the courage to step into that.
