Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Aleksic.
Hi Adam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been making linguistic infographics for five years. It’s the perfect way to combine my passions for graphic design, language, and other topics. I like geography, travelling, and learning about new places, so I started making etymology maps of cities around the country. I chose to cover San Diego because I thought it had an interesting history and wanted to know more.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s often difficult looking into local history because place names frequently have conflicting or ambiguous origins, but it’s always fun to do the research to get the answer.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make etymology infographics on topics ranging from apple varieties to amino acid names. I’ve also been working on a “hidden etymologies” series of infographics focusing on the history of city names across the globe.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the short term, I’ll be making infographics on the etymologies of more cities (Baltimore is up next). In the long run, there might be a book in the work.
