Today we’d like to introduce you to Adylu Llanes.
Hi Adylu, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Adylu Llanes, I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. I was unsure of what I wanted to do after graduating high school. At the time, my grandmother had taken ill therefore I decided to take care of her for a few months. After she recovered, I contemplated what I wanted to do since I did not attend a four-year university straight out of high school. I always loved make-up and the idea of enhancing one’s natural beauty. After having a conversation with one of my aunts she suggested I go to a makeup school in Los Angeles that she knew about. After going back and forth, my mother told me I had her full support. I decided to go to MUD, Make-up Designory a make-up school in Burbank, CA. Thankfully my aunt provided hospitality in Compton and I was able to go to school there. I received my certificate after 6 months of courses. I quickly moved back down to San Diego and began working in various beauty supply/makeup stores. I then realized I wanted to focus on makeup entirely and became a freelance makeup artist. The idea of having my own business and making my own schedule was definitely the best part of it. I have now been doing makeup for 10 years. My focus is on bridal makeup, and I have clients who reach out to me for special events as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With the make-up industry ever-evolving and becoming so prominent in social media, it has been a bit challenging to grow my business. I work a full-time job Monday-Friday, and this poses challenges to being active on social media. As an artist, I have had to learn new techniques and take courses to expand my knowledge and strategies. I do have a good number of beautiful clientele, and I would love to open a studio and grow my business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in bridal make-up; I do take in other special occasions as well as special effects makeup around Halloween. I take pride in my talent and in my customer service. I always try to provide the best and relate to my clients, especially the brides. I strive to make everyone feel comfortable and I go above and beyond to help even if it involves more than doing makeup. To provide some examples: I have assisted brides with their hair, and driven mother-of-the-brides to run errands before the wedding.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can share my posts on social media, as well as share my work through word of mouth.
