Hello Alchemy Beauty Academy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Our story began at a local makeup artist meetup, and after the meet-up, Kimm & Hollie got together at another coffee shop to create what is now known as ALCHEMY BEAUTY ACADEMY.
Our dream was to create something for the artist community that uplifted and inspired those around us. We created the school we had wished existed when we started as hair and makeup artists in the freelance world. Each owner had decades of experience in the industry with licensure programs, various schools, and workshops and saw what was missing.
This is how our dream became a reality.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
WE LOVE A GOOD CHALLENGE! ALCHEMY had its beginnings back in 2020 with moments away from signing a lease in March, right when the news reports started coming in about a virus called Covid-19. Needless to say, that insight from the co-founders, the lease was not signed in anticipation of waiting for the 2-week quarantine to re-evaluate.
Ultimately that was just one of the first and biggest obstacles not only the business had to face but everyone all around the world. The pandemic hit the beauty industry hard with uncertainty and was definitely not predictable.
Despite it, all the owners pushed through and decided it was a perfect opportunity to add more to the curriculum and finesse it to what it is today. Obstacles are really just opportunities in disguise. They teach us how to pivot, and pivot we did!
We learned how to pivot with various mask mandates, closures, and the overall uncertainty of in-person education. We, as owners, are constantly learning, growing, and striving to bring the absolute best to our students – ask any of our graduates! Feedback is openly accepted on how we can bring students the best experience and adjust accordingly. For example, students provided feedback on how 4 days a week was a lot to commit to, so the next year, we adjusted the schedule to a 3-day schedule. For 2023 we are evolving again to provide all lectures online for those who want to learn at their own pace and own schedule supplemented with in-person sessions.
Flexibility is key for any business, and we as owners pride ourselves on the ability to be flexible to continue our mission to create a wonderful community of artists.

ALCHEMY BEAUTY ACADEMY is a unique vocational school which focuses on a university-level of education teaching makeup artistry, dry hairstyling, and business for creatives. It is holistic education for those seeking a career and not just a hobby in the beauty industry.
No one speaks about how essential the holistic aspect of education is to a successful entrepreneur. Teaching about mind, body, spirit, and how it can uplift your abilities as both an artist and business owner. We are the first of its kind to offer this type of beauty education. Despite your learning method, we go over the how and why utilizing Theory (mind), Hands-On Applications (body), & Self-Care (spirit).
