Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandre Di Pasquale.
Hi Alexandre, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I actually got into drumming kind of by accident. I was about 14, at a party, and there was a drum kit there. I sat down, started playing around, and something just clicked immediately. I remember thinking, okay, this is it. From that moment on, I couldn’t really imagine doing anything else.
Once I got into high school, I went all in. I taught myself how to read and write music, played with as many local bands as I could, and spent pretty much all my time around music. That’s when it stopped feeling like a hobby and started feeling like a real path I wanted to follow.
After graduating, I decided to take that passion seriously and study music. I spent two years learning jazz in a private school in southern France, where I’m from, and then made the move to the United States. I studied at Southern Utah University and later at Citrus College in California. Leaving home that young was a big step, but it was also really formative. It pushed me to grow fast, both as a musician and as a person. When I eventually came back home, I felt ready to start building my career.
Since then, I’ve been combining a few different sides of music. I work as a live drummer, playing with different bands as a substitute drummer and in my actual band. I also do a lot of studio work, recording drum tracks and co-producing songs for independent artists and bands from all over the world. On top of that, I’ve been teaching drums for almost ten years now, whether that’s in schools, from my studio, or online.
Lately, I’ve been focused on a new alternative/emo rock project called subtitles. with my friend and lead singer Jake Obermiller. We’ve just finished recording our debut album, which is set to drop this spring. A really exciting milestone that’s opened up new creative ground for me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been a smooth road? Honestly, not really. A big turning point for me was in 2022. I had just come back from the U.S., where I spent three months working on an album project, and I expected things to really take off. But when I got home, my career stalled, gigs were few and far between, the income was inconsistent, and I wasn’t sure what direction to take next. For a while, I felt pretty down and uncertain.
Because of that lack of income and opportunities, a friend suggested I take a job as a tech at a production and staging company. At first, it was tough to accept. I had spent so many years working to be the musician on stage, and suddenly I found myself backstage, helping other artists as a backliner. But instead of walking away, I decided to commit fully to the job, and things quickly changed. I started growing into new roles, first becoming a stage manager, then moving into the position of technical director at a venue in the south of France, which I’m still doing today, and later taking on responsibilities as conductor and technical director for festivals and events.
Looking back, that experience gave me a whole new perspective. Working behind the scenes showed me another side of the music industry and helped me understand what it really takes to succeed. What once felt like a detour ended up becoming a valuable part of my journey. Today, it’s another hat I proudly wear in my career, and I see it as something that continues to shape and strengthen my path as a musician.
It wasn’t the smooth road I imagined, but every twist and turn taught me something valuable.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Nowadays, I’m grateful to say I wear multiple hats in my career, and I’m as busy as I’ve ever been. I am an international performer, studio drummer, drum teacher, and technical director. Roles that each feed into my love for music in different ways. On top of that, I also co‑produce for bands and artists from all around the world, as well as for my own projects.
Lately, I’ve been focused on my band subtitles., a project I’ve been building with my friend and lead singer Jake Obermiller over the past two years. We just finished recording our debut album, which is set to drop this spring. It is a new chapter in my life that I’m genuinely excited about.
What sets me apart, I think, is the energy and commitment I bring to every situation. I’m always striving to grow, take on new challenges, and use that drive not just for myself but for the people I work with.
Looking back at where it all started, I’m proud of how far I’ve come. From taking that first leap into music to becoming a busy entrepreneur and musician, collaborating with respected artists and producers in the industry. Above all, I’m proud of my students, their progress continues to inspire me every day. Music has given me so much, and being able to give back through performing, recording, producing, and teaching is what motivates me most.
How do you think about luck?
I feel very lucky and grateful to have the support of my parents and my brother since I began pursuing music. They have always been there from the start. From getting me my first drum set to helping me build my home recording studio more recently. Their belief in me has been invaluable.
I am also incredibly lucky to have met Jake. Sharing this musical journey with him has been deeply meaningful, and I couldn’t have asked for anything better for my career.
