Conversations with Alexis Gravenites

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Gravenites.

Hi Alexis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It was August 2023. My husband was a groomsman in a friend’s wedding at The Coeur d’Alene Resort, Idaho, and we noticed a wedding vendor documenting everything on an iPhone. The next day, we were chatting with our friends and learned that this unknown vendor was a wedding content creator. Our friend, the bride, had only discovered wedding content creators two weeks prior and decided to take the leap by hiring one.

I had experience in the content creation space, mostly in health and fitness, but I had never heard of a wedding content creator. While we were chatting, another friend of ours—whose wedding was just three months away—turned to me and said, “Alexis, I think you would be amazing at this. Why don’t you try it at our wedding?”.

The next thing I knew, I was researching wedding content creators, watching YouTube videos, and absorbing as much information as I could. By December, my friend had gifted me my first phone stabilizer and gave me full creative freedom to work with her media team.

Their wedding day was beautiful, and I am so honored they trusted me to capture it for them. After the wedding, we went back to our Airbnb and started brainstorming brand names for my Instagram account.
Next, I reached out to wedding venues, vendors, and any connections I had. A photographer who had captured a friend’s wedding—Mari Wedding Co—responded with open arms and agreed to bring me along on a couple of wedding days to shadow her (with the couple’s knowledge and permission). I quickly realized that capturing a couple’s most special memories for them was such a gift and never felt like work.

These two things single-handedly kickstarted my business—and the rest is history!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think starting your own business is ever a smooth road, but I’ve felt extremely blessed along the way. It has truly been a learning experience at every step of the process, from branding to building our team. I’ve had to learn things I never imagined would be part of my journey—like tax write-offs and contracts. This industry is incredible and full of other small businesses, and luckily, I have an amazing community of vendor friends who are always happy to share their own experiences.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a wedding content creator, I capture weddings and events all on an iPhone. Wedding content creators are a newer vendor in the wedding industry and work alongside the media team to capture the wedding day in a raw and candid way. The Girl’s Girl Content Co. is most known for our eye for detail and organic content. I am so proud of our brand and approach to capturing the raw emotion of an event. We have been very fortunate to grow relatively quickly and build a reputable brand.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Small business owners and wedding industry professionals must work together and support one another! From personal experience, I recommend finding a vendor—or vendors—whose style resonates with yours, or even someone with a completely different approach, and reaching out to them. Putting yourself out there is admirable—everyone started somewhere!

When I was first starting my business, I reached out to a creator I admired and asked if we could chat. They were incredibly helpful and let me pick their brain about all things related to the wedding industry, content creation, and running a small business.
